Simply responding vaguely gives a clear message to the asker not to pursue it any further; Examples: "I do okay" or "Could be better"

Tell em, That's my new Benz parked over there, and be done with it.
No really that's rude, and I would tell them It's really none of their business. I wouldn't worry about being rude , because that's sorta just something people accept as not really talking about and if this person is dumb enough to ask then he deserves a blunt answer.

"With God's grace it is sufficient" It is enough for me to manage my daily expenses" and enough to provide for my needs",. It is around the same as other companies. Nothing great"

If you are looking for the non-confrontational, polite response try: "I make enough to live comfortably" or "enough to provide for my needs", then smile and steer the conversation somewhere else.

The question wouldn't arise. If someone asks me how much I earn, I'm ok with telling them.

Try a Carry On style, "Oooohhh, cheeky!" if you're too shy/ polite to say, "Mind your own business, you crass git." Or just joke about being "just the monkey" who gets paid in peauts.

"I'm sorry, but my employer does not allow me to discuss it." If it doesn't work the first time, keep repeating it until they hear it.
