Just watched the lastest episode of 'Stargate:Atlantis' and Dr Carson got killed off. (I liked him!) :-(

That happened to Dr Janet Fraser in 'Stargate:SG1" few seasons ago.

Does it mean if your a doctor on either show, your doomed? Just like anyone who befriends any of the main characters usually die?? Reminds me of the classic Star Trek extras in red shirts who always got unlucky. ha ha

I watch this on Sky One (satellite) so we get updated shows before our limited British regular TV channels.

Also to one of your questions... Dr Janet Fraser was killed during a mission.

SORRY to those who hadn't watched the latest season of Atlantis... sorry for the spoiler. (Maybe Dr Carson will come back in a form or another? I'll keep that 'spoiler alert' idea for any future TV show based questions.)

You seem to have spotted a trend. Lexa Doig (from Andromeda, a show that Gene Rodenberry never wanted to be produced because it was a bad concept) replaced Dr. Fraser, but she has also seemed to have disappeared form the series. I don't know if she was killed, but she is clearly a causality.

I only recently became a fan of Stargate Atlantis so I will hate to see Dr. Carson go, I liked the character and I liked his accent.

Your reference to Red Shirts in the Star Trek the original series is a well known and good one. In Star Trek the Next Generation did you notice how the uniforms were changed so that the major characters wore red, and the casualties mounted up among the yellow shirts.

Where are you watching this from? I watch it too and just checked again to be sure....new episodes don't start until this April. Last I knew Dr. Carson was still alive. Tell us more.....

Well, shoot. I kind of wish I hadn't read this question. Now when I watch it I'll be waiting for him to die all season. Since you get the shows early maybe you should put a spoiler warning on your question? ...just a suggestion.

Well, if you look at most medical dramas the patients drop like flies. There has to be harmony in the universe, so for every 43 patients that die in one show, a doctor dies in another! Of course, this all stops when it's a show entirely filled with doctors and NO patients. Look at Green wing - almost all medical(well medical and clerical but you know what I mean!). They show a couple of patients and then BLAM, Dr Angela Hunter gets whacked with the aid of a Moose! So I think there's a lesson there for us all, but I'm damned if I know what it is!
Sorry...what was the question again?

It's true that usually if they kill you off that the actor wants to leave the show or that they are being fired, but shows have changed in that they will kill of main characters and rather than killing off the main group they kill off some of those who aren't the basic 4 (Stargate main 4 any way). It shows that they are in real peril each week other than getting out of every thing unscathed each week.

lol, I was thinking this yesterday, that it seems the Drs like getting killed off in Stargate.

although I did think this episode of Atlantis was pretty naff and seemed tacked together just to kill off this character, maybe he had better offers and things to do so they had to write him out.

when a main character dies, often it means they have been fired, or have quit.

Sometimes, especially when they are a main character and are immediately replaced, they ask for too much money, thinknig they are indispensable for the show.
