Iv had my dog for a year now. I found him in my apartment complex, when no one claimed him i decided to keep him. I believe he's a pitbull/chow mix, not positive though and i think he's probly 1 1/2 to 2 years old. So far hes been a very good dog he came potty trained pretty well mannered except for a few things. he seems to be very agressive towards other dogs though iv never seen him bite first he does try to challenge the other dogs i guess you could say, he humps other male dogs, people say thats agressive behavier but what really concerns me is his agression towards my little brother who's 13. For some reason my dog sometimes is ok with my brother but other times if my brother trys to pet him he'll growl and tonight he actually nipped my bro in the face, it didnt draw blood but it sure did scare me and my brother. He isnt like that with anyone else in the house, actually he isnt like that with anyone else ever. Will getting him fixed solve this problem? any suggestions will help.

If the dog isn't neutered get it done. This will help with the dog aggression. Since you do not know the early history of the dog there is no way to tell if the dog had been abused early in life or not. I would contact a certified behaviorist asap.

It is hard to say what is happening. Has your brother scared him? Most aggressive behavior comes from insecurity and fear.

It could be very useful for you and your brother to take this dog through a Positive Reinforcement training class together.

Also, is the dog neutered? He should be. Have your brother feed the dog, under supervision. Have your brother hold the dog bowl and dole the food out to the dog handful by handful.

The dog must sit politely while this is going on. This helps the dog understand your brother is also above him. In the dog world Alpha refers to the one who controls the resources, nothing more.

Don't used force or aggression on this dog, that will teach the dog to use force to get what he wants. By being firm and asking and expecting polite deferential treatment, the dog will start to respond. If the dog wants to be petted, the dog must sit politely.

Also, humping is usually just humping. too much emphasis is put on the idea that humping is about dominance or aggressive.
Sometimes a cigar really is just a good smoke.

Hi Deviatedseptum1fan!
Canine good citizenship starts at home. That's where a dog learns to be a well-adjusted companion and acquires the basic skills to behave in public.

When a dog threatens or bites a family member, it usually means one of two things. The dog may be guarding something -his food, bone or toy, for example. Or he may not like to be handled. A lot of dogs have problems when people touch them in certain spots or certain ways.

Like most types of aggressive behavior, guarding and handling problems are easier to prevent than to cure. Gradually get him used to being handled. Touch him all over, including his feet, mouth and tail. Make it a rewarding experience, with lots of treats and praise. A well socialized dog is a relaxed, confident dog that is much less likely to spook and bite.

placed a choke chain on him and learn how to stroll him with the canine at your element, no longer in front of you. it truly is step one to you being the alpha particularly of the follower. You try this by employing giving the choke a speedy jerk each and each time he gets earlier than you. next pass away the choke on the canine and once you feed him or supply him something if he growls at you supply that chain a speedy snap.
