What is the recepie to make simple but tasty/ spicy dal (old grand mother style) ---Any dal with same recepie..

Dal Fry (Spicy Fried Lentil Soup)

Ingredients
1/4 cup red lentils
1/4 cup yellow moong dal (Whole green gram )
1/8 cup masoor dal (red gram )
1/8 cup channa dal (chickpeas )
1/4 teaspoon Garam masala powder
3/4 cup onion (finely chopped)
1/3 cup tomatoes (chopped)
1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
1/2 teaspoon red chili powder
4 tablespoon ghee
salt to taste

Garnish
3-4 hot green chilies
1/2 teaspoon cumin
1/2 teaspoon mustard seed
2/3 teaspoon garlic paste
2/3 teaspoon ginger paste
1/2 tablespoon lemon juice
2 tablespoon coriander (chopped

Preparation
1 Mix and wash thoroughly all Dals (lentils). Soak for 15 minutes. Cook slowly in medium heat until half done.
2 Heat ½ of ghee and fry onions. Add all of the spices until onions are fried until light golden brown.
3 Add the onion and mixture to Dals (lentils) and cook until done.
4 Heat remaining ghee in a small saucepan on a high. Add all of all the garnish except Cilantro and lemon juice and fry for few more seconds.
5 Add lemon juice and chopped coriander to Dal. Pour fried garnish to Dal. Serve hot with roti or rice.

Safety Tip
* Be careful while frying the Garnish for Dal and while putting it in Dal. Some liquid might splatter due to hot oil and water interaction.

* While heating ghee, be careful not to relase too much smoke. The smoke might trigger your fire alarm.

Recpie Tips:
* Add a small amount of ghee to Dal while boiling to keep it from overflowing. It also enhances its flavor.
* The best Dals are usually cooked by slowly simmering it on low fire than cooking fast on high heat.

*Moong dal (green or yellow) can be easily cooked to be soggy like mash potato. So be careful not to over cook.

Rinse 2 cups of dhaal of yr choice in cold water - you can soak it for a bit if you like.
Boil it til mushy and liquidise it with the water u boiled it in.
Put into a clean bowl/pot

Prepare the tarka as follows:

Dry roast a teaspoon of cumin seeds til brown
Add one chopped onion, 2 teaspoons of ghee, one tablespoon oil and 3 large green chillies (sliced or whole)
When the onion is beginning to brown add abt 9 curry leaves and sautee.
When the onions are golden brown add half a tin of chopped or lquidised tomatoes, salt to taste, 1 teaspoon ground cumin, 1 teaspoon ground coriander, 2 teaspoons chilli powder (or to taste) and allow to cook .
Also add in one teaspoon minced garlic, 1/4 teaspoon minced ginger and 1 teaspoon minced fresh chillie (red or green)

When the tomato is cooked, add the dhaal and allow to simmer til everything is incorporated

Add 2 tablespoons freshly chopped green coriander and serve hot with pulaau rice, fried fish and bombay potato.

Boil one cup of (masoor or harar dal) in pressure cooked. Give only one whistle to the cooker.
1/4 spoon turmeric powder
2 tomato finely chopped
1 spoon of salt

Chop two onions
2 green chillies
a small bunch of fresh dhania

In 3 tablespoon of oil fry the onion till golden brown
Add chopped green chillies
Then add boiled dal to it
Give one boil and lastly add fresh dhania.
