I remember reading somewhere that having diabetes can make cats get skinny, even though they eat a lot. Does she drink a lot of water? That's one sign of feline diabetes. What does the vet say about it?

if your cat is fifteen and doing well why worry that she's skinny?
i had two cats at the same time both about the same age. one was quite fat and the other quite thin. she felt like a feather when i picked her up. now she was always skinny so i thought nothing of it. if your pet has suddenly become thin i would worry and take her for a check up, but if this is her basic nature and she eats well, why worry? my fat cat ended up with more health problems and diabetes. if you esthetically want a chubby
you could give her extra rich foods like tuna and occasionally melted vanilla ice cream. no chocolate, however, not good. but if this cat has always been slim i'm afraid that's the way she's going to stay. as i said before, only if she's dropped weight suddenly and recently, that's something again. but if she seems happy, healthy, then skinny she'll be. why not get another cat and see if it turns out to be the fat one. they say if there are more than three cats one will choose to be fat. in fact in my case i called it when my cats were kittens and said "sophie 's going to be the fat one" and she was.
don't worry so much and let her be who she is.

The very first answer could be the problem---also, take your cat to your vet and have her checked for worms--especially tape worms. They will eat like crazy (the cat), but the are not getting any nutrition from the food--the worms are getting it all. Also have her thyroid checked at the same time. Good luck to you, and long-living kitty.

I agree with the first post, if this is a sudden condition I would definately talk to the vet about hyperthyroidism. It seems to happen to older cats and even more if they live in an agricultural area.

please call your vet and make appointment for her. we recently lost ours and she would eat but still lost weight. if vet says shes ok, ask the vet what would be good for her at her age. the other answers are right. 15 is a cat that has a good, long, happy life.
ours was 13 1/2

Try feeding kitten food instead of adult food. It's higher in protein and fat. Check with the vet to see if there are any side effects of this action to watch for.

TO know you would need to run blood tests, or take x-rays, it could be cancer or a thyroid issue that could possibly be managed.

15 is a good long life for a cat.

i agree with the answer before mine...if your cat is skinny even though it's eating, there may be a problem. you should get the cat checked out. just feeding it more and 'fatting it up' doesn't mean that it's healthy.

She's 15. thats old, even for the Siamese breed (longest living domestic cats). Just "fattening her up" is no good. She is most likely dehydrated.
