I have been healthy and feeling perfect. Tonight was a friend's birthday at a local restaurant just up the street so I walked. It was nice and warm today so I only took a light coat. Little did I know that the weather changed completely and now its wind gusts between 35 and 50mph (says our local news) and the wind chill is so cold I literally couldnt even talk walking home. Anyway, about 1 hour after getting home I developed a horrible headache and now I feel a sore throat and that sickly feeling you have before you get really sick. I've always learned it was an old wive's tale that cold weather makes you sick- but right now Im starting to believe it. I feel terrible! No one I know is sick. Has anyone else had this happen?

You were likely exposed to some bacteria or virus a day or two before; most diseases take a little while to show themselves. The wind and weather change is coincidental.

When you are out in the cold it puts an extra stress on your body. This can lower your immune system and make you more succeptible to any illness. So there is some logic to the old wives tale.

Make some hot tea.
Drink the tea, to warm your core body temp up.
The cold wind gets to my lungs and make it hard to breathe.
this usually passes once i've warmed up.

Take a hot bath, snuggle into bed for the night,
and i hope you feel better in the am.

Drink your tea!

Yes, i've had it happen
