My friend cannot stop talking about the Iditarod which starts soon, but he knows very little about dog sledding, I guess he just finished a book and knows all these crazy stories. I wanna show him up with some actual facts. Any help would be great!

the dog most used in Iditarod racing is an Alaskan Husky..
My sister bought a team of retired Iditarod winning dogs, and her whole family enjoyed the sport of mushing and skijourning.
This is a great site to learn all about it> http://www.cabelasiditarod.com/

The dogs mostly used for the Iditarod, and the ones that win are referred to as Alaskan Husky. They are mixes of the best dogs of the top mushers, with all kinds of other things mixed into them for various qualities.

If you see them, they don't have the uniform look of a Siberian Husky. Some of them have the Husky mask, but others don't even look husky. The main thing they have is a desire to run and speed and stamina.

Hi Peter S!
The modern, lightweight racing sled weighs about 30 pounds (14 kilograms). Its ash frame is lashed together with leather, and its runners are sheathed with steel or aluminum. The dogs are specially bred and trained, and most teams consist of five, seven, or nine dogs. Breeds of dog is best for dog sledding: Akita, Alaskan Husky, Alaskan Klee Kai, Alaskan Malamute, American Eskimo Dog, Black Russian Terrier, Canadian Eskimo Dog, Caucasian Ovcharka, Chinook, Chow Chow, Eurasier, Finnish Hound, Finnish Lapphund, Finnish Spitz, Iceland Sheepdog, Inuit Dog, Jindo, Karelian Bear Dog, Kugsha Dog, Laika, Lapponian Herder (Reindeer Dog), Mackenzie River Husky, Mud Husky, Norwegian Buhund, Norwegian Elkhound, Norwegian Lundehund, Poongsan, Samoyed, Scandinavian Hound, Seppala Siberian Sleddogs, Shiba Inu, Siberian Husky, Swedish Lapphund, Swedish Molosser, Swedish Vallhund, Tahltan Bear Dog, Wolf-Dog Hybrids . How many the dogs cost?
All depends on breeder , but it is expensive dogs.

My choice - Alaskan Huskies. Alaskan Huskies are carefully bred.
Alaskan Huskies are very active . Alaskan Huskies are primarily bred as working dogs. They have greater endurance in sled racing than Siberian Husky do. These dogs are gentle and playful, but willful and mischievous. This cheerful dog is very fond of his or her family. Look article about breed: http://www.askedweb.com/askedweb/Alaskan_Husky/

Oh Christ.

If he does'nt know, you at least ought to try to help him learn, there's so much more to sledding than just buying a team of huskies.

They eat tons of meat. They excrete enough dung to fertilize India. And they require much care, much training.
