. this is a completely hypothetical question .

lets say you are sure about what you believe. that you believe there is a god, or there isnt.

what if you had to state for some reason what you believe. and IF your idea was incorrect the person you love more than anyone would drop dead. but if you were right, then things would continue to be the same.
(does that make sense)

are you this sure about your beliefs that you are willing to risk the person you love most?

being someone of faith, i can tell you i wouldnt be able to give an answer... i honestly believe there is a god. but i know i cant prove it. so i couldnt take this risk.

how about you?

how can anyone take this risk? lol. it boggles my mind to think that some of you can say for sure...
i mean NO ONE can prove there is a god or isnt... how can you gamble with someone's life over your ideas (which by the way, cant even be proven?)

and yes the question is unfair... but again its hypothetical.... no one is going to die here.

nothing can be gained? i beg to differ. i mean it REALLY questions your faith, if you think about it right. it shows (or at least i intended to show) that none of us knows for certain if there is a god, so we all need to be respectful of one another, because we DONT KNOW.

i see alot of you have a problem with the 3rd party thing....

why? i mean if you are so sure you wouldnt have a problem. because nothing would be lost.

if you werent sure, then i think you would have a problem with it. so then your answer would be along the lines of... your not sure if there is a god or isnt.

remember _hypothetical_

i am not sure if i understand your question a 100% but:
if death were at my door, and i knew it was death, would i answer it?
is that what your asking?
if it is, then - no. because i would have a choice on if i should open the door or not. and right now, i dont feel like dieing. but if i had no choice, like death would take me anyway, then i would open it.

or if your question is, would i be able to know if death is knocking on my door?
then no wouldnt know, how could i? if someone knocks on my door, more-n-likely i will open it.

No problem, dude. I'll risk it all - everyone I know and love....

May we all drop dead within the week if I'm wrong - there is no all-powerful divine being, god, goddess, God, Allah, Jesus Christ, holy ghost, etc., etc..

Watch the nightly news channels and the newspapers... you won't be seeing any disasterous stories of me and all of my loved ones being told this week.

Satisfied now?

Okay lets start by putting this "hypothetical" question of yours on the chopping block. First of all no not every one believes in one true god and if we all did than what fun would that be. I mean come on this world is full of atheist and PAGANS, I should know I am Pagan and for that fact I ask you this what if your life was the one on the line would you answer that question to save yourself if you where right.

To tell you the truth I personally don't like hypothetical question there is no right answer and there is no wrong answer. I believe that if your going to ask a question ask it straight out.

So I say this answer your own question but put your life on the line instead of a loved one.

Oh and by the way to answer your "hypothetical" question no I wouldn't put a loved ones life on the line, because if you can't put your own life on the line you have no right to put anyone else's there ether!!!!

Yes, I can guarantee you my Christian Faith is so secure that I would risk my most loved one or even myself!! The girl that was killed at the Columbine school was so sure, that she gave up her life when asked if she was Christian. If she wasn't sure, do you really think she'd die for the Lord? This IS FAITH! Until you have a personal relationship with Jesus, the Holy Spirit indwellling you, I guess you can't be sure. So ask Jesus into your heart, repent and be forgiven and follow Jesus who is the only way. You cannot imagine how free you really are and sure you can really be until you are a born-again Christian. Are you anchored in the Lord, are you standing on a solid foundation with unwaivering faith? You sound shakey in your faith. Pray and ask.

What came first, egg or chicken... answer me and if your answer is wrong, tell me you are willing to die.

You don't need to be Christian nor have faith. Be a good person, you will be loved and your life in earth will be heaven. You will be an angel and a saint. You will see the god in you.

Life is all about losing and gaining. All god's creatures will die one day, some go to heaven and others go to hell. I don't see any challenge in it.

Interesting question. Unlike you, I believe in God, and KNOW he is real because he lives in me ever since I got saved :) I would risk God was real 100 percent in a second at any moment... With my children, my husband, mother, whoever...

Nick T... If you notice almost all questions tonight are being thumbs up that are atheist. That is who is on tonight. Not a whole lot of christians answering questions tonight, thus, not many answering this question tonight... thats why not so many responses, not because we dont believe..

As for you my deary.... Does the story of Abraham come into play? God tested his faith by his son, his most loved son, and told him to sacrifice him after waiting so long for him. Abraham was willing, and ready, and God intervened. Be careful what you say, God does test us..

Well, its one way of finding out who is RIGHT and who is WRONG. YES, i think i may take the risk you are proposing. As long as no human was striking anyone down dead, because the 'human' does not agree. So, if a 'god' was doing the striking down, then at least I would finally know the truth!!

Well, hypothetically, terrorists believe along those same lines. They place a gun to your children's head instead of yours to get you to say what they want you to. This is a sick and perverse question. The question of whether my loved ones would die is absurd!!! Whether or not they would die depends on the belief of the guy holding the weapon, doesn't it???

Anyway, God Bless...

that is a hard question. I am strongly atheist but there of course is a small chance there is some form of higher power. Going with the statistical probabilities i would choose no god, but i wouldn't feel comfortable risking anyones life but my own on my statement and discisions.

What a peculiar twist on getting someone to believe in someone who doesn't show them self to anyone who could be, granted, the great pontificate, "God."

Let me ask you a question in like kind, "If death were an angel and came knocking at your door, would you know, and not answer it?"

2007-02-22 19:15:44 · answer #9 · answered by d4d9er 5 · 0 0

Yes. I know without a doubt that what I believe is true, and that fact that you are unsure shows that you're probably not as sure as you think. And if you cannot prove what you believe in, that might be a hint...

Yes, I am confident about my belief. I would risk the person I love most, because I know that I'm right, and nothing in the world could change that.
