I have the 94, yes the lights are horrible, but mine are much better now by using a headlight harness and polished lenses.

HIDs are both difficult to do right and pricey: have to replace the lens, bulbs, wiring, cough up ~$300, hours of research and hours of install..The polycarbonate lens is not designed for the heat of HID, nor does it have a proper cut-off for the light beam which will create a glare to oncoming traffic.

Alternatives for you:
Polish your existing lense to remove the cloudy, sun faded age which diminishes and refracts the output. For $3 and 2min/light, Meguires PlastX does a great job and gets better at 3 applications. I use this.

Next level is the $20-$60 lense polishing kits, 30min/light. These typically use wet/dry sand paper & polishing compound with drill attachment. Be sure to wax after or they will quickly fade.

Next Level is to replace the lens for clear glass lenses: www.carpartswholesale.com part# JP9398CCHL for ~$150. These are glass lenses and absolutely clear. Careful installing as the guide pins tend to break.

Definately upgrade the headlight wiring with a 'Headlight Harness' I use the 'CarShow' harness ~$60, 30min install. Your current wiring does not use relays and all power goes from battery through the dash switch and back around to the lights with small gauge wiring creating a 1.8v drop. The harness includes heavy gauge wiring, 2 relays, short distance grounds. Here's a detailed explanation of the issue: http://www.danielsternlighting.com/tech/relays/relays.html

I used the 80-100 Xenon filament bulbs from xenonmods.com for a couple years ~$20. They are outstanding, but not DOT, and after 2 years one burned-out -as they are known to do. I really needed these at first, then I polished the lenses and they became insanely bright -I felt guilty but aimed them so I never got flashed. I'm now using the oem bulbs and satisfied.

Hope this gets you started.

Although it used to be true that HID's were quiet expensive the basic kit now days costs from $150-$250.

The new 9004 BiXenon, which gives you both high and low in Xenon brightness is $249 at hidfoglight.com. This is including a year of warranty on everything including the bulbs. I have upgraded my BMW and have not looked back ever since.

As far as trouble goes, certain cars do need small modifications I don't believe the 9004 requires any modification, specially with the BiXenon kit. I'm 99% sure its plug-n-play.

The second part of "trouble" is I would stay away from the odd colors, blue, purple, etc. That's about it.

While I cannot define properly a Squeel sound without hearing it, that DOES NOT sound like a differential. Particularly is quiet under power. Does it do this in a turn? Perhaps..and I say PERHAPS. it has a limited slip and needs the fluid changed, but usually this is not a squeel, but possible. If you can work yourself, remove the rear cover of the differential and look for metal. There is not gasket on the cover, only use gasket maker, such as silicon in a tube. If it has limited slip, you MUST add the limited slip additive, also available at the parts store. Good Luck

You talking about true High Intensity Discharge Headlights? They will cost more then you Jeep are you crazy? Let me know how it works out I'm thinking of doing the same thing on my '94. HID's are a low power draw way of producing a lot of light. they are easier on your system then if you installed H4's I believe. Just expensive as heck! The law might not like your old Jeep throwing that kinda blinding light either since they don't like anything that's not stock. I don't think it's illegal but that won't keep you from getting stopped.

Not if they are installed right. Be smart if you don't know what you are doing with electrical on a computer controlled vehicle and take it to a good shop. you can cause more trouble than it's worth.

The only other problem you might have is you might Piss other drivers off with the off colored Lights. LOL
