This is the stupidest question I have ever read or heard! How do you evaluate if one language is "better" than another? "Most people?" What people, illiterate Arabs who know no other languages? Delete this question, don't make a complete fool of yourself with this stupidity. I see how much you know about languages, seeing how you put a period before the question mark. Did you learn that from your "most people?"

First is Cantonese even though it's only used amongst Hong Kong and Taiwan and a tiny fraction of China. If you have heard of it, it's very expressive.

Second is English because it sounds nice and you can almost describe anything with it.

Third is Mandarin. Although i don't like the language, it's very commonly used now.

English is the most widely used language in the world however, I don't know if it is the "best" or not and I wonder who is really qualified to make that assumption?

Good thought provoking question,

Cheers,

My favorite language is Esperanto. I love the dream behind it, to promote world peace through everyone speaking the same neutral second language. I also love the fact that learning Esperanto has allowed me to speak to people from all over the world, from many different cultures, without falling prey to the world's opinion of US citizens at large, that we expect everyone to learn English.

I used to think English was the best language.. But I think that comes from being raised in America...However now, they want us to be bi-lingual and if you've noticed a computer telephone question. " If you want to continue in English, press1" We're not really helping out by trying to learn different languages. They came here, Learn English! When I went to Germany, They liked it if I spoke German... . Not easy to do, but I think if you're in the US you need to learn English!

I will follow a similar path as the previous answer. My Mother is Korean, so the Korean language is most beautiful to me.

Depends on how you define "best language"? One spoken most widely? One most romantic? One easiest to learn? One that could help you but in which area- career, intellectual life, love life?

As far as writing and poetry: French. As far as ease of speaking: Spanish.

French, if you are a writer. French has so many words for things that English has no equivalent for.

My husband is French and we are constantly in a row because he wants to know the "little word" for something that English only has a string of words to describe.
