You can definitely do it, but it will take work. Aim to lose 5 lbs a month, which is a healthy rate.

You want to watch what you eat--eat healthy, DONT STARVE, because if you just stop eating it will lower your metabolism and make it harder to lose weight.

Instead, aim to eat six small meals during the day instead of three big ones--same ammount of food, spread out. This is much better for you, speeds your metabolism, and keeps your blood sugar at a stable level. Also, you'll never be hungry or full, so you won't crave food or eat too much of it when you do sit down for a meal. Or three medium meals and three snacks.

Meals can be things like spinach salads with cheese and yummy veggies for lunch, healthful cereal and low-or-nonfat milk for breakfast (or a couple of eggs, etc). There are plenty of good foods for you that are also really tasty. Stock up on almonds, which are a really healthful munchie snack, as well as baby carrots and apples and cheese. These are all delicious and good for you, and replace chips, etc well. If you're strict with this, you can allow yourself more leeway with dinner, but I'd still avoid things like burgers and fries and pizza. But give yourself a "cheat meal" once a week where you can eat whatever greasy fatty burger you want.

You also need to exercise, because dieting alone is not enough if you want to lose weight quickly and effectively.

Cardio work is your best bet. If you can join a gym, use their elliptical machine because it is low impact and for your weight you want to be really careful with your joints before jumping into anything. If that doesn't work, you should try swimming, another low-impact but great cardio workout. You need to try to go half an hour with your heart beating harder than normal, but not so hard it's uncomfortable. Work enough to sweat, but be able to sustain it for 30-45 minutes. If you don't do this, you won't really help yourself much.

Powerwalking might be a good low-cost alternative. That should probably be 30 mins to an hour, if you choose it, and maybe carry wrist weights to make it a little more tiring. You can find nice easy hikes nearby if there are any, so that you don't get bored. Invest in a walkman/iPod and some peppy workout music. Some of my favorite workout music is the Demon Days CD by Gorillaz.

You'll probably also want to do some basic weightlifting if you can get to a gym. I know it sounds to women like weightlifting will make them bulk up, but the truth is that women aren't made to bulk up. If you use light weights (like 5-lb dumbbells) and do lots of reps (3 sets of 15 or 20) then you can do some upperbody workouts that will really benefit you. You could probably pick up a pair cheaply without having to have a gym membership.

Also, leg work like mini-squats (not deep ones, you might hurt your knees), lunges (if your body can handle them), and calf-raises are good. At a gym, the hip abductor and adductor machines are good.

abdominal work is good, but don't expect it to make you lose belly fat. You can't isolate fat that way, the only way to lose it is to burn fat all over. But hey, the worst thing a few crunches can do is make you stronger.

If you're interested in a list of good exercises to do and descriptions, you can email me.

Additionally, drink LOTS of water and not much else. Cut soda and other sugary drinks from your diet, or at least cut down on them. Instead of coffee, try drinking green tea, which has about 1/3 the caffiene and practically negative calories.

The most important piece of advice: commit and stick to it, no matter what. If you mess up one day, don't think "well I messed up yesterday so I can today," or you'll ruin all your hard work.

Best of luck.

This may not be easy but it works.

Burn more calories than you eat.

Cut your fat intake.

Eat three cups of fat free low cal yogurt a day (make sure it has live cultures in it) and pineapples. This helps you break down your food.

Do 45-60 min. of aerobic exercise a day (preferably before you eat in the morning). This will attack the fat. Try to supplement your training with some running, running stairs or hills, and cycling. Mix it up, it will keep your body guessing.

Do 30 min of weight training three times a week. This will build lean muscle which will in turn burn fat.

Keep moving all the time. Tap you feet while at the computer, tap you hands on your legs while walking. Keep moving and keep burning calories.

I lost 40 lbs in two months and have kept it off for eight more months doing this. I also took my body fat % from 30% to 12% and my waist from 36 inches to 31.

I've tried many diets and couldn't make anything work. Since having my first child, I've been carrying around an extra 30 pounds. This diet just made sense and showed me that everything I was doing before was wrong and a waste of my time.

The plan was so refreshing and so simple to follow. I did everything plan said and lost 23 pounds in the first three weeks. I'm now starting the diet again to lose 7 more pounds. This plan has changed my life.

Get started today!

Tone your muscles in the evening, watch your carb intake, and do some aerobics in the morning.
Muscle toning (or building) has to be done in the evening before retiring to bed to be most effective, and aerobics must be done in the morning before breakfast to be most effective. This has to do with optimum blood sugar level. Do this, and you'll think it's a crime to lose so much weight. You'll probably wonder why people have such a hard time at it.

I lost 15kg in 6 months. I ate veges, rice, and drink water on weekdays. On weekends, I ate some fish. Now, I have returned to a normal diet. It includes fish on weekdays as well, but no meat. Meat is bad. I don't have a car. Most people in China ride buses. So do I. Riding buses and walking on streets burn a lot of caleries. I suggest you exercise more, such as walking or swimming.

Swap a bowl of pasta to get a bowl of vegetables. You can save up to 200 calories by chopping the starch and adding veggies.
