My mother passed away at an early age and I was raised by my grandmother My grandfather had passed away long ago and I never knew my father.

Anyhow I attended college here in AZ and have stayed 2 years after graduation in order to make sure she has some family member in the state. However, since I have remained in the state I am not using my degree or working a job that would advance my career in any way. I have watched friends leave and start lives and now I need to do the same.

I have stayed because my grandmother is very needy and demanding (all though she'll never admit it) and last June she "accidentally" burned her house down to the ground, and I had to deal with insurance compaines etc.. to get it rubuilt in a timly manner while she complained about being to old to handle these things (she's 74).

I'm moving to Japan, and she has no friends or family. Where can I leave contact information if she is sick or passes away? Are there free ederly check up services I could use?

I know of no such free service but you could look into Life Alert service My elderly mother has one of those, she insits on living alone and this makes us all feel better.

As for leaving contact info put it in your mother's phone book or tape to the back of the phone. You could also ask a neighbor to keep the info just incase. that is the best I can think good luck with your new job in Japan.

Should be. Check with the Protection and Advocacy syatem there in AZ. There has to be a elder care system..Grandma sounds like she may need supervision(burned the house down) ..If she's not in a good financial state apply for services for the elderly....You are not the only person that has gone through this ......Contact Social Security .too.

Honey, God bless you and you are right to go on with your life. Well if you go to social services, they can put you on to allot of programs for the elderly. If she is sick, you can have a home health service to come by for 2 to 3 hours aday and check to see if there's a service called Meals on wheels to bring her a free lunch daily. She may not eat it, but that's one way of someone checking up on her. You can ask SS about a program they may have to pick her up and take her to a place where senior citizen meet and talk, play games and go on trips. All of these programs will have all of your numbers just in case she get sick, hospitalized or in case of death. If you are her power of Atty. You might want to look around for retirement homes for the ones that are moving around. NOT a nursing home. Make sure you have the papers in order before you leave. Will and testament, power of Atty. Medical papers ( in case you want to know something about her health and you can call the doctor to ask questions). This is all I can think of at this time, just ask S.S what can you do and ALL that you can do.

Leave your contact information with her neighbors (more then one), contact her dr and have them put the contact information in her file, contact the local police dept and hospital and have them put your contact information in her files. There are many agencies that have elderly "buddies" that will stop in and visit your g-ma and play cards with her, bring her to the store if needed etc. Just contact a local agency for the elderly and explain to them what you are looking for, the first number might not be the right one exactly but they should be able to give you lots of numbers for other places. good luck!

some tough times you've been through.
maybe you can try neighbors or local (city or state) social or church organizations witho whom you can endorse your forwarding contact information.
try praying sincerely and God will guide you.
