Under what circumstances does it quit? What are you doing at the time? What version of OSX? What Mac are you using?
My iMac will shutdown if it gets too hot, which this Summer has been almost every day I leave the window closed.
There have been a small number of hardware issues with some laptops.
You need to provide some more detail to get a proper answer.

I don't know. But I'm running mac OS X 10.2.3 and am totally ready to ditch macs. I began on them as a graphic artist but I'm sick of all the little glitches and the lack of qualified service. I don't feel like investing any more money in my Mac. And finding Mac software is like a major effort.

Sims 2 is fairly previous and particular would not mesh correct with the numerous reducing-element version of OS X. study the author's website (be particular to get the Mac version!) and search for updates and help documents.

9/10 it's bad RAM. If you have multiple sticks, try using only one stick for a while. If a particular program is the culprit, try reinstalling. Could also be a bad hard drive.
I'm assuming you're running a fairly modern version of OSX (10.3 or higher) older versions were a tad flaky.

It might be that your mac hardware is outdated to run OS X, unless it came on your mac, then it could be a corrupted system file.
