The kind of deression that makes us feel low and depressed ( There are far serious kinds of depression that I am not referring to, but just the simple, non-clinical kinds)

I know hot chocolate helps me, and so does some physical activity. Apparently eating fish is useful too, because of its Vitamin B content.

But what else?

Ah, I did not mean clinical depression.

You hadn't slept well, your boss was angry, and when you returned home after a long day at work, you notice there's no food in the fridge.

Then what do you do to feel better?

You know you'll be better tomorrow morning, absolutely fit and fine. But what about now?

Yup, chocolate, martial arts, and friends are stress busters.

But there must be more, that we can add on to this list!

Well - for starters, if you drink alcohol or do drugs, you are absolutely making the situation worse.

I do know that getting out in the sun helps. They call it light therapy. Just 30 minutes a day can make a big difference. If you aren't totally opposed to it, you can also join a tanning salon and go at least 2-3 times a week for 10-15 minutes. I have heard that a lot of people join just because it helps their depression, especially during the winter months. Also you could try some over-the-counter herbs like St. John's Wort. I have never taken it, but I have heard it can help mild cases of depression. Also taking B-complex vitamins is supposed to help with mood swings. Just keep tabs on yourself and make sure the feelings aren't lasting more than a few months. If they are, you might want to talk to someone. Sometimes just having a safe person to vent our feelings to can go a long way. Take care!

A lecturer, when explaining stress management to an audience, raised a glass of water and asked,

"How heavy is this glass of water?"

Answers called out ranged from 20g to 500g.

The lecturer replied, "The absolute weight doesn't matter”.
It depends on how long you try to hold it.

If I hold it for a minute, that's not a problem.
If I hold it for an hour, I'll have an ache in my right arm.
If I hold it for a day, you'll have to call an ambulance.

In each case, it's the same weight, but the longer I hold it, the heavier it becomes."

He continued, And that's the way it is with stress management.

If we carry our burdens all the time, sooner or later, as the burden becomes increasingly heavy, we won't be able to carry on.

As with the glass of water, you have to put it down for a while and rest before holding it again.
When we're refreshed, we can carry on with the burden."

"So, before you return home tonight, put the burden of work down. Don't carry it home. You can pick it up tomorrow.

Whatever burdens you're carrying now, let them down for a moment if you can"
So, my friends, why not take a while to just simply RELAX.
Put down anything that may be a burden to you right now.
Don't pick it up again until after you've rested a while.
Life is short. Enjoy it!

Getting enough rest (but not too much, don't try to hide from your depression by sleeping all the time) is important, as is maintaining proper nutrition. As you noted, physical activity is important. And if the depression begins to get severe or too frequent, try to identify what the root of it is. See a doctor or therapist, if necessary.

its not the hot chocolate, its the milk that helps. The best way to manage depression is suicide because otherwise there's a good possibility of a relapse back into depression.

Exercise! Try taking on an aerobics or dance class. If that's not your cup of tea... then maybe a kick-boxing or karate, or something like that?
