For hotels it depends what you want to do - shopping, sightseeing, nightlife. For all these I'd give different answers. Anyway, as a compromise candidate for a cheap hotel, Bangkok City Inn - you can get it for Baht1,000 a night; good location for shopping and public transport. You can go below Baht1,000 but if you go much below that price, the hotels start being guest-houses rather than real hotels/don't have any stars/don't have good access to public transport.

There's nothing wrong with Bangkok, it's a very interesting place. I stay at a small English hotel called The Parkway, above a tailors shop right on Sukhumvit road and next to the Landmark building. It's not expensive, but it is peaceful and well appointed, and right in the centre of things. If you fancy a bit of an adventure, whip round the corner and have a look at Nana Plaza, go to Jim Thompsons silk shop, it's a must, do a river trip, but stay away from the real touristy things like dancing elephants etc. Enjoy the streetfood, hang out at some great expat bars, and have fun. Ask the owner at Parkway, or any of his regular expat customers for advice, it's a friendly small hotel

I'd say the best thing to do in Bangkok is get on a bus and leave! When I have to spend time in Bangkok it's usually for Embassy stuff so we stay close to the National Stadium , sky train station. I've forgotten the name of the place but ir's on the other dide of the road from the stadium right next to a tiny 7 11. The hotell's nothing special but the food in the resturant is cheep and very good.
Enjoy your stay,

I would avoid ANY "cheap" hotels. Bangkok has SO many great things to offer and an AWESOME culture. You will love it!! Do some web research but be careful while you are there. It does have a reputation for being a tourist trap.

(and dont mind the word 'farang'!!)
aight.......to the point.
CHEAP HOTEL? BANGKOK? sorry mate, im afraid thats pretty much an oxymoron.
Plaza Athenee - Wireless Road
Sheraton Grande - Sukhumvit...
Oriental (FAR from cheap)...the Davis...JW Marriott....all these are expensive.
THINGS TO DO
check out the awesome temples (but wear appropriate clothing)
thai massage
chao praya river barge triop
suan lum night bazaar
thai food, thai food, thai food. if you want western food, i recomend
Limoncello (italian)
Ratsstube (german)
Fuji (japanese)
Sawoey (thai food - Suan lum night bazar)
or just go foodpark at the emporium. lots of great english pot pies :)
shopping....siam paragon, emporium, chidlom, platinum. amazing. and lots of sales. shouldn't be too expensive for western people, the currency difference is ...pretty much. one us dollar = around 40 baht...
or chekc out chatuchak. cheap, funky, stylish....and very thai..
floating market.
pubs, bars....wtv....
so either you can explore the more cultural side of bangkok, or on the other hand, indulge in the modern, fun metropolis.
(oh, and soi cowboy has many prostitutes ..lol)

Thee place to go in Bangkok is Kho San Road, when you come out of the airport, there is a small booth with a girl selling bus tickets to Kho San Road, i think i went on the bus number 8.Traffic is bad getting there. But there are loads of funky thai markets and lots of amazing and beautiful things to buy rather shop on your way out.Its easy to take a tuk tuk from there to see the Grand Palace, and the standing buddha, ask for a map too. I stayed in a cheap hotel behind the temple.

No. in simple terms examine your self in the inn. yet, a lot of inns you need to be 21...and if no longer, you certainly desire a credit card. you are able to say there is in simple terms one staying in the inn. Or 2, doesnt count...there's a ninety 8% hazard that they are no longer gonna ask how previous she is. as long as they have a guy or woman sufficiently previous to lease the inn room, they do no longer care approximately the different human beings.
