I have an outline black tribal tattoo, then later I got a colour tattoo (red, black, green, blue), both from professional tattooists, but somehow the color one seems to be fading much quicker than the black one. Is it illusion or black ink last longer?

There are so many variables to tattoo fading. Black will likely stay better on the tattoo you described with the color if the black is tribal. It is more densely colored in, not shaded. Some of your colors may be shaded for added dimension and depth.

Blue will stay better than red, a slightly weaker color on the spectrum. Also, blue will stay longer than green because there is added yellow, which is a weaker color than red.

Get your colors touched up a little and it will be fine. Be sure to use sun block all the time on the tattoo because even blacks get damaged from the sun.

ok i have quite a few tattoos and quite a few friends in the industry, and no colour does not fade faster than black. fading has to do with many different variables. the technique used to do the tattoo, where the tattoo is (is it in a place that gets caloused alot like a hand or a foot) does the tattoo get a lot of sun, what brand of inks were used. all of these things play into it. i have seen 20 year old colour pieces that look brand new. also it could just be dry skin, meaning it could be an illusion. try putting some lotion on the colour one and see if it "pops" again. 9 times out of ten fading of a tattoo is the result of either technique used or sun damage. so i hope this helps and it never hurts to get them touched up.

All tattoos will fade in the sun. If the Black one doesn't get sun and your colour one does, that could be why. Get out the sun screen would be the best bet.

I believe reds and oranges tend to fade the quickest... But black is most likely more permanent.

Yep, black lasts longer. My wife's colored letters aren't even readable now, but her black ones are. My black lettering is still good too, I don't do colors.

I think black does last longer becaus eit is a much stronger ink then colour and really stains. I'm not sure though. never had a tattoo. :)
