I somehow got Strep Throat about two weeks ago. I've never had it before, I'm 18. I went to the doctor and he gave me Penicillin and Vicodin. I didn't take the Vicodin for very long but I took all of my Penicillin. I took my last Penicillin pills about three days ago but my throat stopped hurting about two days after I started taking them. But yesterday my throat started to hurt again. Today it feels exactly the same as it did when the Strep Throat started to develop and my tonsils are red and white. How and why is this happening if I took all of my medicine?

Some infections are more resistant than others. When I was young, I had a strep infection that wouldn't go away after two whole sessions of antibiotics, and I finally had to have a penicillin shot to cure it. You should go back to the doctor and get tested again.

Does'nt sound like it. The common symptoms of strep throat include: 1. Severe and sudden sore throat without coughing, sneezing, or other cold symptoms. 2. Pain or difficulty with swallowing. 3. Fever over 101 F; (lower fevers may indicate a viral infection and not strep.) 4. Swollen lymph nodes in the neck. 5. White or yellow spots or coating on the throat and tonsils. 6. Bright red throat or dark red spots on the roof of the mouth at the back near the throat. 7. Swollen tonsils, although this symptom may also be caused by a viral infection. (In teenagers, mononucleosis can cause a severe sore throat that looks like and has symptoms similar to those of strep throat.) 8. It is easy to tell when you have a sore throat or a cold. It is harder to know when you have strep throat. Generally, sore throats are caused by a viral infection and not strep bacteria. Strep throat usually does not occur with cold symptoms such as coughing, sneezing, or a runny or stuffy nose. The more cold symptoms you have, the less likely it is that your sore throat is a strep infection. 9. In some cases of strep infection, a skin rash develops and spreads over the neck and chest and eventually over the whole body. The rash feels rough like sandpaper. This condition is called scarlet fever. Scarlet fever is treated with antibiotics, which usually lead to a quick recovery. Scarlet fever is not dangerous if treated.

You need to take penicillin for ten days for strep throat. If you stop earlier, it is possible for the remaining strep bacteria to start growing again. It is also possible that another bacteria or virus was the cause.
This time try to get a throat culture before starting the penicillin again.

What you're experiencing is a recurrence of the strep throat. You should go back and tell your doctor about the return of the original symptoms. I can't see how you did anything wrong. I commend you for not taking the vicodin for very long. Vicodin can be dangerous because of its addictive qualities. Good luck and God bless you.

Apparently you need to get another antibiotic refill. Sometimes strep takes several doses to get rid of the infection. Make sure that you change you toothbrushes. You may be re-infecting yourself. Contact your doctor.

Your strep throat might be caused by a virus, in which cause penicillin would be useless. Penicillin is for bacteria.
