I spent 3 years at MCRD San Diego training stinking recruits. If anyone ever tells you PI is harder have them come climb around the hills of Pendleton with us for a while. This is an old myth with no real truth behind it. The DI's are the same, the training is the same... The only difference is women are trained at PI and only MEN are trained at San Diego. Hey, we also have the planes to deal with in SD, makes it much harder to communicate. Trust me, that is an old myth because MCRD San Diego has the beaches nearby and good weather, so they would call us "hollywood" Marines, but we all know it's just jealosy.

Marine Boot Camp is Marine Boot Camp.
West Coast Marines deal with the mountain ranges.
East Coast Marines deal with the humidity and chiggers but have a flat surface to train on.
Pick which one you rather have...

Marine Boot Camps have the same standards. Maybe, the location and the people administering the training had something to do with the toughness.

I think you may have it mixed up, Paris Island is the original and therefore "real boot camp", even though besides the humidity and sand fleas (Which arguably, scratch that, definitely makes PI harder), they are both the same. EDIT___ Your grandpa probably said that because Hollywood Marines think their boot is harder, and PI Marines think theirs is harder. It really comes down to which you personally think is harder. Not being able to breathe because of the humidity and getting eaten alive by bugs all day long-PI vs. Having to ruck up and down a very hilly environment.-Pendleton.

I've had friends at both and the only difference is the weather versus what time of year you are there. Most prefer San Diego for it's lower humidity.

Marines receive the same training both places. The only difference would be the weather.

It's Marine boot camp. It's going to be tough no matter where you go.

I'm a former Air Force door gunner/crew chief on a Blackhawk helicopter. I've met plenty of marines and I don't think it matters where you go...marine basic is very tough.

Expect a lot of crud thrown at you either place. Everybody I know says it is literally six of one half dozen of another. There is only the typical rivalry of "my boot camp was tough, yours was a cakewalk."

It is the same, the only difference is the weather.
The same warrior ethos is taught at both locations.
