Try stairs, walking, or even "home-made" dumbbells...

Walking is always good--it's low impact, and you can go as far or for as long as you can handle it, and build up from there. Plus, not much is needed in the way of equipment--just a comfortable pair of shoes (or boots if there's a lot of snow!) and maybe an iPod or Walkman. I like to pop in some upbeat music to help me keep pace--more up-tempo keeps me walking quicker! Or if you don't have a good place to walk in your neighborhood, try at a mall or shopping center. (I know, "mall walkers" are a bit cliched, but it's also nice to "window shop" as you walk, or watch the other people walking around...just avoid the food court--it's expensive, and most of what they offer is not that healthy, either!)

Stairs...more of a challenge. If you live in an apt complex or a multi-story home, you have a flight or 2 available to use. Again, go at your own pace. (I had a friend that used to do stairs w/me at the office building we worked at on our lunch break--we'd go up the 2 stories at one end of the building, walk across the building to the other side, then down the 2 stories at the other end, only to walk back across the building to the first set of stairs to start over!)

"Home-made" dumbbells... These are easy! And they can be used when you walk or do stairs. Take a couple of plastic soda bottles & fill them w/water or sand. (Wet sand will weigh even more). Carry one in each hand (I like the "Coke" bottles, because they have "curves" on them that are more interesting/easier to hold on to...) when you walk or do the stairs, and just allow your arms to swing naturally. You can also do various lifts w/them as if they were regular dumbbells.

These were all things suggested to me when I started my weight loss program w/Weight Watchers. (I had tried every weight loss plan around, and then found WW--it is all about portion control, and you can eat any food you want--in moderation! It's about the easiest & most "sane" program I have found in my quest for a healthier weight--and also the one I was most successful with, as far as the amount lost, and the time I have kept it all off!)

I eventually moved on to step classes & Nautilus equipment (after I was able to start setting aside the $ for a YMCA membership) along w/riding my bike, and swimming. (again, at the "Y") Check around--there are a lot of gyms opening up that have basic exercise equipment that offer basic monthly memberships for about $20/month. Some are even open 24 hours!

Also, finding a friend to exercise w/you is always a good way to ensure you continue--you have someone to work with you & keep you compnay, and to provide "morale support" and encourage you to go when you may feel like "wimping out." Not "standing up" a friend is good motivation to keep a regular schedule! :)

Ck out the sources listed below for add'l info, too... And don't worry about how you "look"--remember that you are doing this to be HEALTHY, and being healthy will make you feel better (in addition to looking great) too!

Good Luck! Let me know how you are doing! It will be good motivation for me to keep working, too! :)

I found the book to be very informative and easy to read.

I've lost 17 pounds in 12 days, I'm just concerned that I'm losing too much weight, too quickly. I will admit I haven't followed the guide exactly. I'm not sticking perfectly to the listed foods and meal plans (but mostly) and doing very little exercise, but the weight keeps flying off.

It clearly works and if I'd followed it exactly I think it would scare the living daylights out of me because of the amount that I'd lose. So thanks again for the information. I've never purchased anything like this before because they are usually full of trash, but 3WD has been a pleasant surprise.

Get started today!

Well if you happen to have a Wii it's actually a really good way to loose weight, while having fun and something for people who aren't super active. It's been proven by someone that playing Wii sports for 30 min a day he did loose weight. As someone mentioned dance dance revolution on playstaytion is another fun indoor way to get active.

If you don't have the game systems to try these ways you can do simple exercise activities such as jogging in place, sit-ups, crunches, pushups. You can create a regimine yourself of what you are comfortable and try to do it each day, first starting it easy and then working towards doing it for longer periods of time as your body adjusts to being active. Try running in place or jumping jacks for about 5 min and then do as many sit ups as you can. Its maybe a 10 min workout and start off like that and then gradually as your body adjusts and gets more stamina do it for longer periods of time and add other simple exercises.

What you need to do is lay the fork down. It's tough I know. But at that weight you need to consume an abnormal amount just to maintain it. If you have to eat. eat Tuna (chunk light) straight out of the can high in protein 1.7 grams of fat per can. Chop up heads of iceberg lettuce with tomatoes..salt pepper, lemon juice..EAT ALL DAY with this. The pounds will seriously drop off (no cookies, chocolate etc) treat food as a fuel but it will take time not to have to feel full. Then energy will return and BINGO..exercise is no prob.

There are loads of snow activities that you can do. (if it is snowing)

However, if you want to start off and become trim and fit, start doing crunches and maybe pushups. Start off really small, around 5 crunches and 5 pushups and build up from there. Then, once you start gaining more strength, then, start pursuing other activities and exercises such as running or a sport if there is a park with facilities nearby.

It would take a while, but it is definately worth it.

Join a sports team at school or your neighborhood community center.

Rugby is a great sport, and you would be a fine forward! practice is usually Tuesday and Thursday evenings.

You don't have to know how to play, they will teach you.

Good luck and have fun!

Hmm you could start by doing things alittle differently. Like if you live in an apt. take the stairs and not the elevator or walk to school(if within walking distance) walk around the house more, and Pilates are really helpful. Yes, they're kind of "girly" I suppose, but they really do help. =]
