I say audiovox is the alternative brand,Why not get a Sony Combo DVD Player,Those last long and have nothing but good reviews,Get a combo dvd player like i did,Here check out this free giftcard. http://linkachi.com/?uyo it should make your choice alot easier.

I bought one over a year ago, a smaller 7 in screen 16:9. It works well. The speakers on it aren't great, they're ok. It sounds much better thru headphones. On the plus side, it sees pretty sturdy and I was able to hack it and remove the region code restrictions.
