My mom is begging me not to go. I told her it would be like taking the silver spoon and running away to Canada. How do I break it to her and make her understand, this is for me? And for my country. This will be a great endeavor. Please give me any tips.

God bless our army and get them back home safe..
Your mom loves you and very worried of what's been happening and all that killing. Hopefully, war will be over soon and all the families will be reunited with their love ones.

First, thank you for your wanting to serve our country. How old are you? Are you the only child in the family? Moms, no matter how old their child(ren) are, think of them as their "babies". And, with what is going on in the Middle East, it is a scary time. Especailly for moms who have a child in the military. What does your dad say about all of this? Please consider making an appt. (if your mom is willing) for an Army recruiter to come over or you go there, to talk it all out with you, and your parents. Especially your mom. And, make sure that everything the recruiters tell you that you can have, career in the field you want, etc., please get it all in writing BEFORE you sign the papers. Would your mom be more comfortable if yo were to go in the Navy or Air Force? I wish you the best. Take care.

Must you really do this? If you were my daughter I would freak out as you are putting your life at risk. There are so many people that have died with the Iraq war. I honestly wonder why Bush's daughters arent out there fighting the war. They sit at home smug as bugs partying on down while so many other sons and daughters have died. Very sad and totally unfair and why hasnt anyone asked Bush why his daughters havent joined? I totally agree with the previous replies, you have been sadly brainwashed and may not live out your term. This war is unfair, ruins the lives of the young, you may loose your life in a horrible fashion, or come back totally handicapped for life. If you want to do something heroic go feed the poor in your neighbourhood and sit and wonder why is it that the middle class and poor loose their youth, while the rich have their kids safely tucked in their homes..again ASK BUSH TO SEND THOSE GIRLS TO THE ARMY..HYPOCRITICAL...

Listen to your Mother. You're stupid to go fight a war for Bully Bush. The army is all about making enemies, trespassing, blowing people and things up. You'll be brainwashed into a killer. This is a horrible thing to do to a parent. Do you really want to come back a cripple, mentally and possibly physically? You wouldn't be protecting the US, you're picking on a weak country, so some oil company executives can be rich. Make yourself a good life, don't be some hired killer. Your poor Mother must already be in great grief. You need to seriously rethink this.

I think people fear the army because you never know what could happen. A war could happen. In fact, a war is happening! But they just have to understand that this is your decision, your life and your passion. If you want to serve your country your country is lucky to have you and they need more people like you. Just get them to understand your decision and it seems like you've thought it through so show them you've thought it through. There's nothing worse than going to the army without support of any kind. They're your parents and I'm sure they'll understand.

I salute you for your courage!

But do you really not mind spending 6 mos to 1 year in the desert while random bombs going off next to you? And are you in agreement with our presidents foreign policy? Are you ready to die for some obscure cause?

These are questions you should ask yourself as it is no picnic to serve in the military. Being an ex soldier myself, I think I know a little of what I'm talking about.

Hon I think you have fallen for the army's hype and lies campaign. You do know that no matter what they say you will wind up in the war zone right? Those recruiters lie like cheap rugs. I am with your mom, do not do this there must be some other path your life can follow. This one is gonna lead you right to a body bag.

You say you would just love to have your legs blown off by an IED........DON'T BE A BULLET SPONGE....Join the Air Force, and be sent once every other year, and don't listen to those liberals who say that you will be brainwashed into a killer....I came back fine, and I am proud to have served in the US military.
But you know that aready.... :) Don't do it for Bush (PLEASE OH PLEASE ANYONE BUT HIM) and don't do it for anyone but yourself! Take advantage of the college aspect and learn a skill valuable on the outside world....unlike me who chose to work on missiles......dang it all to hell! LOL!
