My 6 week old puppy has contracted the parvo virus from her litter mates when I tried to rescue them from a neglectful home. I got her when she was 2 weeks old. The puppies were being starved to death. I took them and rushed them to the vet, but it was to late for them. She was happy and healthy weighing 6 lbs. Where as they weighed only 2 lbs. The vet said she contracted the virus from my clothing despite the fact that she had been vaccinated. I'm keeping her hydrated with pedialyte and special nutrients from the vet. Is their anything else I can do to help her here at home? She has another appt. with the vet in the morning. Thanks sooo much.

Thank you all so much. Her diarrea has slowed greatly. Her vomiting has slowed as well. She is so sleepy and weak though. She was diagnosed around 7pm. I took her to the vet immediantly when the D and V started. And I will insist on an iv as soon as the vet opens his doors in the morning. Again, thank you all for your help.

She is a red nose pt bull terrier. I was told that because of her breed that she is more suceptable to this virus. Is this true? Will she have a more severe case?

Parvo Emergency Tea Recipe
Use this tea if Parvaid is not available or if the need to stabilize
nausea is necessary. If using the tea in addition to Parvaid in hopes
to control nausea remove garlic from the recipe.
Ingredients: (ingredients can be found in most major supermarkets
with pharmacies):
•ï€ 1 cup Pedialyte OR Oat Water (electrolyte fluid)
•ï€ 2 tea bags herbal Peppermint with Spearmint tea (A good
source - Bigelow's Mint Medley. If the mixture is not
available find peppermint and spearmint separated – use 1
tea bag of each. If only one is available (ie :Peppermint) use
2 tea bags. DO NOT GET TEA THAT CONTAINS
CAFFEINE.
•ï€ 2 teabags chamomile tea / DO NOT GET TEA WHICH
CONTAINS CAFFEINE
•ï€ 2 capsules Echinacea (This can usually be found in the
vitamin section near the pharmacy)
•ï€ 2 Teaspoons finely chopped garlic. Needs to be fresh
garlic not dry (garlic packaged in a jar sitting in water or
oil is suitable). If your puppy has worms increase the
garlic to 2 tablespoons.

Heat 1 cup of Pedialyte or Oat Water until hot but DO NOT BOIL.
Add 2 tea bags of mint tea, 2 tea bags of chamomile tea, empty 2
capsules of Echinacea, and add 2 Tsp. of fresh garlic.
Stir and let cool for 20 min.
As per the following chart give one dose, wait 15 minutes, give
another dose, then give a dose every hour after that.
Amount of tea to administer:
Animal Weight Tea
•ï€ Under 3 lbs give 1 teaspoon
•ï€ 4-10 lbs. give 2 teaspoons
•ï€ 11-20 lbs. give 1 tablespoon
•ï€ 21-30 lbs. give 2 tablespoons
•ï€ 31-40 lbs. give 3 tablespoons
•ï€ 41- 50 lbs. give 4 tablespoons
•ï€ Add an additional 1-tablespoon to the 4 tablespoons for each
10 lbs of body weight over 50 lbs.
Refrigerate tea recipe. Parvo Emergency Tea Recipe will be good for
3 days refrigerated. The tea is best if given warm. Run the syringe
under warm tap water. One can also put the tea (recommended dose)
in a small glass and place it in a larger bowl containing hot water and
allow the tea to warm up. Do not microwave the tea.
If your puppy is on IV fluid – Over-hydrating can be straining on
the heart. Reduce the IV drip to half the dose and give only half the
amount of tea.

Of course keep her warm, if she is in a box try putting a heating pad in with her, just put a pillow case over the pad & keep on low. If you don't have a heating pad then get a large soda or water bottle, fill with hot water & then put a tube sock on it & slip it in on its side beside the pup.

Good that you are using the pedialyte, also, there is a high calorie paste in a tube for cats & dogs to keep the calories they need even when they don't want to eat. Most will eat the paste voluntarily as it's flavored.

If she is "croupy" try holding her on your shoulder like a baby & pat her fairly hard all around the chest to help keep mucus broken up.

Change the pillow case or sock & box EVERY DAY!

At the moment you are doing all you can. Keeping her hydrated is the main thing. If the vet hasn't told you otherwise, offer small pieces of boiled chicken.
Your pup needs all its strength now, so if she is eating and drinking it is a great sign.
I had dogs with parvo before most of them made it, When was she vaccinated? does she have a bad case of diarrhea?

My thoughts are with you, good luck !
