Free will gives us the freedom to do what we OUGHT to do.
It gives us the ability to do what we WANT to do also -- but that ability shouldn't always be exercised.

Free will is an illusory concept made necessary by our limited knowledge. In a truly causal universe, where events are the results of sufficient cases, there is no room for free will. But we do not have the ability to learn all the causes that lead to a certain event, we just don't have the time or mental capacity, so we use the concept of free will to fill in the X's in the equation. I know many disagree with my hard determinism, but I have yet to hear a satisfactory reconciliation of free will in a causal universe.

Any available option. This is why Christians believe that making the right decision is so important. You have many options, but to live a good life, you should choose the path that God would have you choose. You make the wrong choice, you have bad results.

Its is both. Free-will is the desire of the ego, not of the soul. At the ego level there are many choices at the soul level there is only one direction.

Free will is the freedom to do as you will. Why complicate it?
