If the letter states that your blood is acceptable, it means that you are not infected with any disease that would be transmissible through your blood (ie. HIV). However, this does not mean you have a clean bill of health - there are other diseases and infections that you may have that cannot be detected through your blood (ie. certain cancers, STDs).
Moral of the story: You should not use blood donation as a replacement for your annual physical with your doctor!

In the United States, the tests performed on donated Blood are determined by tradition, need, experience, cost of the tests, profitability, and local conditions that may exist at any given time.
Acceptance after all tests and condition is very essential. The donor'd blood is accepted only after fulfilling the conditions.

Blood testing - After donation, the Blood is tested for such blood-borne agents as HIV, hepatitis and syphilis.

When the blood is found alright the blood bank sent a letter to the donor informing acceptance of the blood, which means there is no blood borne diseases including cancer. In the following web site you can see all the guidelines on Blood donation.-

Red cross, I did hear they have issues, not unless they got it together now. I used to donate to red cross, till I found out some thing's I did not like. So I stop donating, and I go to local hospitals, they are in need as much as the red cross for blood. I found this out when I was going to school for PT, and from someone who worked with Red Cross, and quit because he didn't like what he had known...

Not necessarily. AIDS if recently obtained may not always show up on test for it. You should always get a second test for AIDS 6 months after the first test to be sure. And you should NEVER use blood donning as means of being tested for AIDS or other diseases.

It means they cannot detect anything. Some of the tests have a window between exposure and a positive test. If you are worried and give blood to get tested, you run the risk of exposing someone if you are in the window period.

yes. they do not check for all cancers because not all cancers will show up in blood. . they do check for STDs, and other viral and bacterial infections. it is pretty safe to assume you are healthy but if you are concerned about someting you should see a doctor. when checking for HIV they do an antibody and antigen check but they would not tell you if you were HIV positive or infected with any other virus or bacteria. they would simply tell you to go see your doctor

If you have to ask, you might look into a simple blood test. Do not rely on any test not specific to HIV. By the way, I'm not trying to be a jerk. It comes natrually. Use protection every damn time unless you know it's monogamous. Good luck, and keep your wierd blood to yourself.
