I currently reload pistol and rifle and have bought the blank reloading die, aka neck and star crimp die. I do WW2 reenactments and want a cheaper alternative than having to buy blanks. I have a "regular" supplier who cut's 223 brass to make blanks. All my "weapons" for reenactments are made to shoot only blanks. I don't need "don't alter the barrel, don't try this at home blahblahblah...", I just need more info. If you don't have technical info, don't answer.

It might be easist to go to www.sarcoinc.com.
They currently have a big load of 9mm blanks, cheap.
-a lot easier than trying to "roll your own".
You do realize of course that blanks will not cycle the action of a semiautomatic weapon without a blank adapter that restricts the barrel opening to create enough pressure to move the slide back, don't you?

223 Blanks

It's much easier and a LOT safer to go buy some blanks. Blanks take a special crimp that can not be duplicated at home. And .223 and 9mm are way different. Save yourself some grief and injury and buy them instead.

use the 9mm cases, use the same powder weight as if you were loading a bullet. buy some florists foam (sorry, cant remember the technical name for the stuff) and pack it in flush to the outside edge of the cartridge. (it's the green moist foam that florists use to set flowers into for arrangements) The foam will turn to dust when fired. You can play with powder to foam ratios to try to get a semi auto to cycle. This works much better with a revolver.

Have you seen .9mm and .223 ammo? Did it not occur to you that there is a slight difference not only in the length but also in the width?

Just buy some .9mm blanks but remember, even blank ammo will kill, blind or maim so don't play around with it.

By asking this question you have already proved that you don't know enough to risk it. Buy blank ammo factory made if you need it.

take a 9mm luger, and pliers, remove the bullet, the powder charge is behind the bullet, and if I remember correctly, it will not fall out, but if it does, just put a piece of tissue paper there, it should work,

Right you do that. So when the gun fires the gun will jam and blow a hole in the barrel blinding your or blowing off part of your hand. I have been around firearms all my life, and you never alter any type of load.
