After all, every American benefits through lower prices, and every American who owns stocks or mutual funds benefits through higher profit margins.

Ralph S. I agree, however consider who is burdened with the social costs and who is reaping the benefits. I don't think the very wealthy in this country are much troubled by the social costs of illegal immigration.

Americans will continue to hire illegals because they want cheap goods and many of them do not want to work in low-paying jobs.

You're absolutely right on the points you mention. Consumers get better prices, and stockholders get better returns. However, you might consider some of the other ramifications of supporting illegal labor:

* Hospitals get extra with emergency room traffic since they can't afford to get health insurance or take care of medical problems by other means
* Insurance premiums go up when you have lots of folks without ID's or insurance getting into automobile accidents
* School systems have millions of children outside of the tax base straining educational resources

There's more. There's the competition for low-skill jobs that ends up putting Americans out of work. There's the security implications of having millions of immigrants crossing at will over a porous border. Perhaps you're being a little selective in citing the benefits of allowing employers to illegally employ undocumented workers.

Studies indicate that illegal aliens cost over $500 billion. They basically cost more then they are worth.

Most Americans don't own very much stock. Over 40% of the stock in America is owned by less than 1% of the population. Studies indicate that Americans dipped into their savings in 2005. The average American doesn't have a lot of money to invest in the stock market. Credit card debt is at an all time high. The average household has $8,000 in credit card debt. Unfortunately, that is a lot of money for a large percentage of America. http://moneycentral.msn.com/content/SavingandDebt/P70581.asp
Clinton's WTO trade agreement with China lowers wages. Illegal aliens also lower wages.

Americans are not allowed to hire cheap illegal labor. Those who do should be held accountable, but then a lot of the people who move and shake America would be exposed as criminals, including those who make our laws. Our borders in California, for instance, will never be secure so long as demand for foreign menial labor is greater than the domestic supply.

Absolutely not. The gains of illegal workers is going into the hands of corporations while the cost of them is going against the middle class.

As for prices being lower, that is not true. Look at Nafta, Gatt, etc... did our prices go down when they got cheaper labor overseas with no trade cost to export = NO. BUT their profits went out the roof.

Corporations have proven they are going to pocket the profits of cheap labor and not pass it on to the middle class.

Who says they're cheap. They are rejecting $10 hour jobs here in California. I'm still not sure what should be done. It just seems unfair that they have it better than the poor. On the other hand, can we force the unemployed to start working what illegals so.

I just thought I would chime in with some more numbers that help show the *cost* of all this illegal labor.

As Investors Business Daily reported in March 2005:

"The U.S. Justice Department estimated that 270,000 illegal immigrants served jail time nationally in 2003. Of those, 108,000 were in California. Some estimates show illegals now make up half of California's prison population, creating a massive criminal subculture that strains state budgets and creates a nightmare for local police forces."

Another Scary stat from the center for immigration:

--Immigration has become the determinate factor in population growth. The arrival of 1.5 million immigrants each year, coupled with 750,000 births to immigrant women annually, means that immigration policy is adding over two million people to the U.S. population each year, accounting for at least two-thirds of U.S. population growth. (and you know their kids are going to public school! add 10k per kid per year, not to mention the healthcare ramifications!)

Some more info also from the center for immigration:

--The proportion of immigrant-headed households using at least one major welfare program is 24.5 percent compared to 16.3 percent for native households.

All this is okay in your mind because you think they are helping to make things *cheaper*?! Think again.

No, those below poverty level wages are subsidized by taxpayers who end up paying for food stamps and WIC for their children, and worse, for education for their children in overcrowded, underfunded schools running on year round schedules with emergency certificate teachers. Our children's education IS their future, and illegal immigration is ruining that education.

I'm happy to pay pre-illegal wave prices for goods.
