Several years back, I dated a woman who caught her uncle, a respected Pentecostal church leader, practicing his "tongue-talking" in the tool shed behind the barn. She quit the church that same week.
Was she wrong?

No...and if a tongue speaking Christian tells you so then they are deliberately disobeying God by judging you! God says "judge not that you be not judged" and that if you do, you will "be judged the same way"....
Many Christians believe speaking in tongues was meant for a certain time in the early Church...and its not so much that they don't believe in it, that it is real, as that they don't think it is really needed most of the time.
I have known of specific times when the Holy Spirit use it in an unusual way...to reach someone for Christ.
All Christians who know Jesus are sinners, saved by Grace....no one is better than the other.....and those kind of details don't save you...only Jesus does.

No, St. Paul said: "If I could speak all the human and angelic tongues, but had no love , I would only be a sounding brass or a clanging cymbal" (1 Corinthians 13, 1). In fact most of those who say they speak in tongues are just faking it.
From my experience those who truly speak in tongues are not born again Christians but contemplatives.
Peace and every blessing!

No! Speaking in tongues is something that - even in the bible - should only occur every so often. If you are looking at a church/attending a church that requires you to speak in tongues (been there!) leave now, do research, and then look at the church again.
In college - being new to town- I went to church at a different place each Sunday. I had a very uncomfortable experience with a church that required you to speak in togues as you came up from the water from being baptized. Scary!

No, the Lord gives each of His Children spiritual gifts to use, FOR HIS GLORY. I speak in tongues sometimes in my private time with Him, but that does not make me a better christian than someone who doesn't. A matter of fact, if people who do speak in tongues are not careful they can start to believe that they are better and then pride sets in. The gift does not make a person better or worse- the gift is given to glorify God and God alone.

Nope. A christian is one who does the will of God.
If the person who speaks in tongues and possesses the spirit from God, but that person refuses to yield to the will of God, then the person will grieve the spirit.
In which case, its better off that he/she not be a christian because he/she would be reaping condemnation through the grieving of the spirit.
Those who do not have the spirit should pray hard for it, and God will grant the spirit. But once you have the spirit, you must yield yourself to God's will. Otherwise, there's no meaning to having the spirt except to have Him judge you as a spiritual failure.

I don't think so. There are plenty of Christians who do not speak in tongues, yet are used powerfully by God. How do you be a better Christian? Spend time with Jesus Christ and have joy in God. We can all enjoy the grace of God.

Nobody is righteous. The Bible says" There are none righteous------no---not one."---------every single one of us are sinners saved by grace......Every single day of my life I have to choose who I will serve. Most of Us are carnally-minded.
Baptism of the Holy Ghost is a very good thing--------the tongue is the most savage and untamed member of the human body. When we seek to surrender our selves to His will with all our hearts----our minds and our souls it WILL BE evidenced by the talking in tongues that you refer to. Does this make Me or you a better Christian than anyone else?------NO---------it does NOT-------God is no respecter of persons. Even after the baptism we still face lifes trials and lusts. --The fact is every single one of us must CHOOSE to do the right thing each and every waking minute.----and even the GOOD Christians are prone to stumble and make mistakes------when that happens we have to pray and ask to be forgiven. The Lord is faithful and just to forgive us of our sins. But the fact remains we won't be forgiven unless we pray and ASK to BE forgiven.---------GOOD LUCK you will make mistakes along the way but you can get right back in God's grace------salvation is only a prayer away.
--as for the tongues-------do not be too troubled if you haven't yet------keep trying and once you let go and give your all------it will happen to you too--------till then you are just as wonderful in His sight as anyone else as long as you accept and believe.-------to sum it up-----------------------remember this---------------
-------------------salvation is only a prayer away.

Not necessarily. When you speak in tongues, you speak directly to God. But if your heart is not in the right place, you are no better than anyone acknowledging that they are sinners and ask God to help them. That is my opinion. May God Bless U.
