people on here are saying that the U.S. entered late in WW2, had it easy and finished it off without taking the brunt force of the Axis Powers. Sure they entered later, but the saw some of the worst action. they fought 3 in a half long years. Did they not see the dead americans on the Normandy beaches, or the dead u.s. marines on the beaches of Iwo Jima? some people need to get their facts straight before they open there mouths. it angers me that some people dont take in the account of the brave soldiers that died for their freedom as well as the U.S.'s freedom.

p.s.- i know not all Brits are like this. but i've seen quite a few that are.

Most Britishers are deeply grateful for American help in WWII. They know they would have been lost without the US. You have to be careful not to let the shrill ignorance of a handful of people make you think this is what most people think.

Well it is a fact of life that the US entered the war long after the other major powers of France, Britain and the Soviet Union and only then because the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor and Germany declared war on the US on December 11 1941.
By this time France had been devasted and occupied by the Germans, and Britain had been at war for over two years, much of that time as the only force prepared to oppose the Germans.
The Soviet Union had been fighting a battle against the overwhelming force of the german invaders for six months and had already lost millions of soldiers and civilians before they managed to stop them before Moscow.
While the americans took the lead role against Japan in the Pacific, the British and Australian forces bore the brunt of the fighting in the Indian Ocean.
As far as the war against the germans is concerned, the Soviet Union bore the brunt of the land fighting and their losses in men outweigh all the other nations put together.
Where the americans made a big difference was in the provision of war materials because their industries were still intact as the only nation among the allies that had not suffered invasion of the homeland or constant air attack.

The Brits don't say that America didn't suffer or that they had it easy. They are just sick of Americans saying they won the war on their own. Great Britain went 3 yrs on their own against the Axis Powers while they were on a roll and storming across the world. We all know and openly admit that it would have been a different outcome if the US hadn't entered the war but if it wasn't for Great Britain in the first three years, along with Hitler invading Russia, you may have been facing a world dominant Axis Powers alone.

First to answer your question, Brits are not ignorant.

Now, if you read some accurate history, it is true that Americans went into the war when the German troops were half-frozen, weak and almost starved to death. The fact the USA suffered deaths doesn't void this fact. It only supports the fact that we were needed because they were bent on winning.

You just said it yourself. Some Brits are so ignorant. But not all Brits. The same is true for Americans, French, Germans, or anyone else in the world for that matter.

Americans need to learn to let things people in other country's say roll off their backs. did you not know people in other country's hate the American govt or the American people? accept it and move on. the only reason America went in to the war is because japan bombed pearl harbor, if it would of not been for that America was going to stay out of it. after japan bombed us Hitler told japan they was n their own. Hitler told them to leave the giant sleeping. he most likely had plans of dealing with America after he concurred the rest of the world. thank god japan bombed us or we would be a germandize world. there would be no race except for white Germans with blond hair and blue eye's. this was his plane. you need to really read on history to know this stuff.

They are no more ignorant than anyone else. When I came home to America after serving in Vietnam, Americans spit at me and called me babykiller. Should I hate Americans or think they are all ignorant as a result?

Many Americans are also ignorant of Roosevelt's WWII strategy. Simply put, Roosevelt knew America had no stomach for massive casualties. His strategy was to supply the Soviets with equipment and supplies and let them supply the bodies - until Germany was weakened enough for America to join in.
