Yes you can die. A person in Korea recently died after playing a video game non-stop for 53 hours. He had a heart-attack when he finally went home.

There migth be some brain damage after a month of forcing a subject to stay awake. Brain activity changes during the day and with the state of concioussness, it's needed for to let all your body rest, repair itself and for mind solve conflicts. The lack of sleep can cause damage but most likely she will fall asleep before having any, given that she is healthy. Some rare cases of insomnia can develop a R.E.M.- like state of consiousness si the brain can rest.
The lack of sleep is harmful in epilepsy, hipertention and also depression itself. In depression lack of sleep will not let the patient solve every-day conflict while dreaming in REM sleep. Epylepsy needs to lower brain activity so neurons don't start crisis. Hipertention needs rest
Tell her to go to the doctor so she can be healthier maybe some mild medication will be required to ease her stress but will make her feel a lot better, also starting exercise is reasonable.

Her body will shut down and make her sleep before she dies. Some people can stay up for days on end. I've stayed up for 3 days straight before. You become a bit loopy but you won't die. The only way she'll die is if she's not eating or drinking.

She'll eventually collapse/pass out from exhaustion. If she's behind the wheel of a car or lands some place bad, then yes.Or if she's makes a bad decision in her sleep deprived state. But, it would be from an external cause. The lack of sleep wouldn't cause it alone.

yes you can die from sleep deprivation...and even stress...not to mention the combination. The body thrives off of two things. Nourishment and Rest. Rest gives the body a chance to reset every day. If the body doesnt reset it begins running off of energy it does not have...it's a rather interesting phenomenon-more info on howstuffworks.com probly hope that helps

Dying from "no sleep" is possible, if the person cannot fathom the sadness that he/she underwent. Sleeping is very important in our life; physically and emotionally. Try your very best to help your friend. Do all you can to help...there's a lot of things to do to help with this kind of depression.
Be with them, and giving her comfort can relieve pain and sadness.

Yes, it usually takes more than a week. The brain needs rest and the body repairs itself when you sleep.

You can't force yourself not to sleep. Your body will shut down on its own. If she's depressed, though, then she needs help. Talk her into seeing a psychiatrist.
