These are symptoms that indicate that you should seek medical care for something hitting your head:
""Things to watch for include repeated vomiting, unequal pupils, confused mental state or varying levels of consciousness, seizure-like activity, weakness on one side of the body or the inability to wake up (coma). If any of these signs are present, immediately call your health care provider.""

f you have been knocked out or stunned or had a VERY hard hit to the head, someone should wake you every few hours to make sure you haven't slipped into a coma. Or, just don't go to sleep for 12 hours or so.
Sleeping itself is not the problem - it's just that it would mask sudden unconsciousness.

Depends on the accident. Was it a car/motorcycle accident, or what something throw at your head?

People who have had a hard blow to the head should be watched for any symptoms of brain swelling. Its always a good idea to go to the ER after an accident involving a head injury. Any signs of confusion, vomiting, repeating yourself, extreme fatigue, weakness or inability to walk, severe headache, loss of memory of the event, or any loss of conciousness should be a cause of concern.
You can let them sleep, but you need to montior their mental status regardless of being awake or asleep. But they aren't going to go to sleep and never wake up from a concussion.

When my boyfriend had a nasty accident on his dirtbike, I let him sleep, but checked how fast he woke up about every hour or two and asked him some basic questions(what time is it, what is today, etc). If he had difficulty waking up(yelling, shaking hard and woke wake) or couldn't answer the questions, it would be time for the ER.
Lol. He was pissed that I kept waking him up, but it made me feel better.

If there is a concern that you might have a concussion , you normally get someone to wake you up every few hours and answer a few questions to show you are awake and thinking properly.

There is a chance that if something in your head is damaged , you would simply not wake up and then you might die.

No, you are supposed to stay awake for at least 6 hours after any head injury!

no cuncussions make you drowsy so if you go to sleep without being checked out you might go into a comma... thats bad.
