hi, i just moved to a new place in nyc from philly, and the new place is medium sized with a large window in the center and the entrance door is diagonally to the window. i brought a full sized bed that i placed in the center of the room where the window is. i also painted that window wall brick red and the rest of the other walls light green. my question is is that position of where i place the bed a good position? and is the colors auspicious?

first regarding colors, paint whatever color you like. just be careful of using red, because it tends to activate areas with either good energy or bad energy.

activated areas means that if the area has a good energy, then nothing bad will happen. but if the area has a bad energy, then something bad will happen.

to locate which areas are good or bad, you need a fengshui expert. the distrubution of good and bad energies inside the house or apartment usually is based on the direction where your main door is facing, and the time when you first moved into the house.

next, with regards to best place for your bed. get a book, by ms. lillian too regarding ba zhai or 8 mansions, her book explains how to get that ideal spot for your bed.

The colors are complimentary and would normally go well together, but warm colors tend to arouse our emotions, while cool colors soothe them and in a bedroom, we usually don't want to have our physchological well-being aroused, but soothed. Chocolate and green are a popular color combination these days, maybe with a little light turquoise, and brown is just a very muted sort of version of red, if that's the direction you wanted to go. That said, however, the red is behind you when you sleep, so it may not affect your ability to relax. If you don't see the red when you're in bed, then it may be okay. Also, because of the magnetic pull of the poles of the earth, beds should be placed north and south, preferably with the head at north and the feet at south, so that our bodies are aligned with the magnetic pull. Placing them east and west or any diagonal direction places a sideways or diagonal pull on our bodies. But, you should also not place your bed so that your head or feet are aimed directly toward the door. Head toward the door means you could be surprised by someone coming in. Feet toward the door is a sign of death; of a person being carried out in a coffin. There is more than just the bed placement that creates the relaxed, comfortable, stable feelings that feng shui seeks. You should also not have a direct path to the doorway from your bed so that the energy flows out of the room. The doorway should be softened with plants or some other sort of soft-feeling object to each side that stops the energy from leaving the room. You can also place chimes or bamboo at the door entry to bring good luck. In feng shui, you also should not mix relaxation with work, so if you have an option of not putting a computer or work desk in your bedroom, that would be better too. If you don't have that option, you can put a folding screen in such a way that it is decorative, but hides your work area. Also, too much clutter can affect your relaxation. It says "busy" to the mind, so keep your accessories to a minimum. Happy sleeping!

You should be able to face the door when you're in bed so nothing coming in the room will surprise you. The red is not great for a bedroom. It would be better if you used the green throughout since green is a restful color. It you really want that wall darker than the rest why not go for a darker shade of green?

Wow your room truly isn't conducive to feng shui. I knew you mustn't at all have your mattress with your ft dealing with the door way so i imagine adverse to any wall will be superb in case you avert that.

It's not good feng shui to place the bed(headboard) near the window and your legs(when lying down) pointing or diagonally pointing at the door.
