If you know someone and see them regularly at school, work or church, do you think they are obligated to reply to all personal email from you? Do you always respond to personal emails?

I respond only when a response is called for or necessary. I do not expect an answer to all e-mail that I send out.

If there is a question in the email, you should always respond as soon as it's convenient. If you cannot get back to the person immediately, it is sometimes a good idea to text them. If you cannot contact them within a few hours, I would call them at your earliest opportunity. Email has become a basic form of communication, and, even if you know the person, it is considered rude not to respond.
If, however, there are no questions in the email, you can reply if you want, but a response isn't neccessary.
Hope that helps!

Sometimes I just reply in person instead, if there isn't a direct question in the email I don't think it's required to respond.
I also don't often reply to chat mails immediately, I don't much like them. Some chatty people will return another mail within the hour no matter what time of the day or night I send them something; it freaks me out a bit. I am not very sociable, I like to talk to people but only sometimes. If I were to reply to them right away I'd only encourage something I seriously dislike. I know it may be a bit rude but I have to chose for my own comfort level here.

It depends. Sometimes they are good as a reference to keep track of what is going on and what has been said. I have found that it is easier to remember certain things if you discuss it in an email and then brief over it in person. If it is just everyday chit chat, then I would answer like every other one if this person is sending them too much.

I always respond to personal emails received. Its just proper to take the time to send them email and letting them know that you have received their email.

I only respond when directly asked something. Not if they are sending jokes or those chain letters or computer going to blow up if you open a certain email.

I read my email every other day or so.

I do, as soon as I have time. It's not hard to write a 3-line email.

No I don't. I've often given my email addy to people and later wished I hadn't. Not because I don't like them, but because they email me too much.
