First, Does your mom even want a dog? Dogs do NOT make good presents unless the person receiving wants one, and even then they should pick out the dog that suits them best.

Second a free puppy isn't free. There are expenses for dog food, vet care, emergency medical care, toys, etc etc.

This is going to sound like a lecture and I am sorry for that.

First, you get what you pay for. Remember that.

Have you discussed this with your mom? Do you know if your mom even wants a puppy? If she wants a pet at all, do you know that she would prefer a puppy to an older dog? Some people cannot stand the potty training, chewing, and untrained puppy phase and would much prefer an already house broken, settled dog that is already trained or is at least ready to focus on training. Also, do you know that a yorkie is what she'd want? Just because someone says a breed is cute does not mean they'd want one. I think doxies are adorable but there is no way I'd ever want one. If your mom DOES want a puppy, she should be with you to pick it out. What you like may not be what she likes. If I picked a dog for my mother, both she and the dog would be miserable. I like big, high energy dogs and she likes small, medium energy dogs with long hair (I HATE long hair!). To make a point of how different our preferences are, I have German Shepherd Dogs and she has American Cocker Spaniels. Do you know that your mom has the money for pet food, routine vet bills, spaying/neutering, toys, training, emergency vet visits, and anything else that comes with her new pet?

You really need to think about all of this and discuss it with your mom. If this is what she wants and you don't have alot of money, please rescue. Take your mom to the shelter and let her get the dog/puppy that SHE wants.

heaps of puppies at the pound but 1 thing to remember is if you go to the pound each and every family member needs to go with you. They will not let you take a dog if there are other members of a family that live in the house that are not present. If your planning on getting your mother a "surprise" puppy please don't. That is another reason dogs end up in the pound.. they were never wanted in the first place.
Tell your mum what your thinking and see her reaction, she has to want a dog too.

Sorry I don't have any puppies for sale, but if you intend to try and get one for free you really need to narrow down the area for people as it is not much good for someone to have a puppy available in AUstralia and you live say in America.
You could also have a look at the free to good home section of your local paper.

It is a very nice thought but you may have better luck calling your local shelters or the vet offices and asking if they have any one wanting to donate a puppy.

This time look in your own back yard... so to speak. On yahoo someone would have to pay for shipping and vet certificates to even get the puppy to you...

GOOD LUCK HON

Animal shelter. However, never get anyone a pet as a present without their knowing beforehand. Caring for a dog takes time, effort and money, maybe more than your mom is willing to give. Ask her first before getting her a pet.

Go to your local shelter and ask to see the dogs in "the back room". These are usually dogs that have been given up on because no one wants them. Talk to the folks there about what you want and why. These people love dogs almost as much as I do and some even as much. There's nothing they want more than to find these poor creatures a furever home.

Go down to the animal shelter. I bet you can find a real cute small dog and give it a nice home.

Hi Lenea 16...... try craigslist.org. People are always trying to find homes for puppies and sometimes they are free. What a nice thing to do for your Mom. I hope you find one and it's a pleasant surprise . Good luck!

Put an ad on Craigslist.com in the wanted section. You might luck out.

Call the local animal shelters or google around to see if they have webpages with their current offerings.
