wrap a ticking clock with a shirt or towel, then place it where he sleeps, the clock simulates his mothers heart, so he should sleep easier.

Try setting up a crate with a heavy blanket over it; train the puppy to go in there during the day when you want quiet periods, but leave the door open. But at night the door should be shut so that the dog understands that this is its 'den' and it is a safe place especially for it. Don't leave the dog in there with the door locked when you are out of the house, and don't leave the dog in there so long that it messes its bed. You can put a rawhide bone and plain dog mattress with a good wipeable cover and blanket in there to make it comfortable -- going into the crate should be a reward not a punishment. We ran a registered kennel for many years, and with very anxious young puppies we sometimes added a teddy bear.

Read up on crate training on the web, it is a very good way to get the dog to settle in as a member of the family and to be properly house-trained. You can use the command, 'go in your house!' and repeat it with the dog -- using treats to associate the command with going into the crate -- until the dog learns what the command means.

This method also conforms to canine personality (i.e. need for a den) rather than humans trying to force dogs to conform to human ideas of comfort.

PS I agree with what others have said about a ticking clock - that works very well. You should also feed the dog at exactly the same time each day and make sure that you've walked it outside before bedtime so that it is ready to conk out when you are.

well it depends, how old is it, does it stay in a crate (pet taxi)....all puppies do that, it may need to go to the bathroom (keep in mind how big its bladder is), or it probably is just wanting out of wherever you keep it. i've got two dogs that i trained when they were puppies & they're really good now, this is what you should do:
keep it in a pet taxi at night and whenever you go somewhere, this will help you potty train it
at night put a blanket or towel or whatever over the taxi, the darkness will calm it down & it should stop whining so much

How long have you had this puppy? If you were to move away from your mother how long would it take you to adjust? Make your puppy feel at home. Give the puppy a regular place,it will eventually give a sence of securityand maybe try a soft blanket or rug, a little extra attention, too! BE PATIENT

Well, I know what I would do. I would put the puppy in the bed with me. I am sure the puppy is scared and lonely. This may not be what most would do, but it is what I would do.

He is missing his mommy. Put an alarm clock under his blanket where he sleeps. He will hear the ticking and think it's his mom's heartbeat. We did that for our dog. It still takes a little time for them to get used to being in strange place at night. We also would leave a radio on real low just for noise so he don't think he is alone. (or t.v.) Good Luck!

Put a loud ticking clock in his bed. It'll soothes him. (That worked on I Love Lucy when they bought Little Ricky a puppy - until the alarm went off.)

Depends where your puppy is? Do you corner it with gates somewhere? Its whining because its missing you.

Need more info...

Emma did that the first couple nights we had her. (I personally think that she wasn't as old as we were told and wasn't ready to be away from mom) but anywho....

I just loved on her A LOT and cuddled with her and made sure that I talked to her and made her feel safe.

Wouldn't you be sad if a big man that you didn't kow took you away from everything you knew??

SO just let her know you love her...big strong man you :)

She'll be OK!

I repeat DO NOT LET him/her sleep next to you. IF you do you're just going to grow him/her up as a weak dog. THis whining problem will worsen if you give him/her attention. NO ATTENTION!
