If your cat is very friendly, it might approach him and try to get his attention. Otherwise, the cat would probably avoid him. If you know your cat well, it's possible you might recognize signs that something is out of the ordinary, or maybe not.
Dogs will usually ignore mice and rats in the house; cats will chase them. Cats will usually ignore people in the house; dogs will not. A dog would let you know, and most likely defend you if you're attacked physically; even a small dog.

The minute they sense a stranger they high tail it to a safe place like under a bed or behind your clothes in a closet . They don't come out until the intruder is gone . Don't count on a cat to do anything to assure your safety .
Get a Rottweiler or a Doberman .

Probably run. Can't while being affectionate don't usually take to strangers right away.
Unless the cat was a Tiger or Lion, then they'd probably just eat them

I have heard of some cats (even disabled ones!) attacking a stranger that comes into their "den." Some cats go "berko" i.e., they go crazy and alert their owners that something isn't right. Depends on the temperament of your cat and how territorial he or she is.

my cats would freak out. they'd probably go hide in the basement. or else act really agitated and they would puff up and look really alert. if u think there is someone in ur house, get out and call the cops. if it turns out there's no one, then fine, no harm done.

The cats would keep an eye on him. Cats will fight to the death if their *provider* is in danger... The majority of dogs will not fight a man unless trained to do so... But your cat will defend you to his death..

PS.. I am a dog person ... lol but ... they are trained or will be trained.

My cats may be untypical but mine start growling & crouch with hackles raised if someone even approaches my door!

They stare towards the noise & stay in that spot. I have no doubt that if someone came in uninvited they would bite!
