I'm doing a paper on emotions and feelings, i need to do a survey on what hurts the most..

If you really think about it, would you rather have someone throws a stick at you (worst is you break a bone, you can't die from someone chucking a stone at you) or having some talk sh!t behind your back or to your face( your social life could be ruined, your self confidence shattered)

And tell me why........

It is actually "but words will never hurt me", after the sticks and stones bit.
I absolutely disagree with that old saying, because the pain felt by a stick or stone is relatively short, whereas something hurtful said to you can stay with you for a lifetime.

It is said that you 'choose' to feel one way or another. Perhaps that applies to some emotions, where you can wallow in something for an extended period of time, but if something is said to you which cuts to the quick, you certainly don't 'choose' to feel hurt, it's a perfectly normal reaction. (I hate some of the "New Age" rubbish like that).

As you mentioned, people talking behind your back or inventing things about you can do irreparable damage to your reputation; that is why they have slander and libel laws..........(can you imagine what the famous suffer......it must be awful!)....but they are not much use to the average person being slagged.

I think the "hurt" aspect of words is that they can be used to attack your very sense of self; "who" you are, if you know what I mean. Damage to that can be utterly devastating.

I'd rather have the sticks and stones myself........they are much easier to recover from.

Just as the quote goes, "sticks and stones may (key word) may break my bones. They can be dodged or ducked under. Words can't physically hurt you but if you are self-esteem challenged than what people say could hurt you a lot more.

In my opinion, sticks and stones hurt worst because they can break bones and if done properly could cause death, words on the other hand can't do much (if you don't let them).

Disagree. words harm... each so often a techniques worse than any actual discomfort. words make you think of... your concepts is the main effectual subject of all. while that concepts is poisoned with the aid of the hurtful words of others... the wear and tear it rather is executed to you is a lot worse than that that must be finished with the aid of a normal stick or stone...
