Come over and talk with members on one of these groups. I recommend the first one the most as it has the friendliest members and is the most active. Something is definely not right with your boy. He should have a single tracking gait but the legs should never touch one another. BTW There are no elbows on the rear legs.

It sounds like you are trying to explain a dog that is cowhocked. The German bloodlines have more problems with this than the American bloodlines. Cowhocked dogs is not a fault in the SV standard, the German line breeders don't consider this a fault. I personally do not like it. When compairing German show to American show, you will see more cowhocked dogs in the German show lines. Granted you will see some sickle hocked dogs in the American show lines. When your dog is gaiting, do you see the cow hockness? I have a West German show female that stands cow hocked, but cleans up when moving. How old is this dog? For the poster that said something about the crappy American bred Shepherds, I do not even have 1 American Show Shepherd that is cow hocked! Oh, and a GSD should not have a straight topline at all even in the German line dogs!!! The roach backs are coming back now in the West German show dogs as well. Some of them look disgusting when they are real roachy.

It could be hip displasia, but German Shepherds walk kind of funny.

There are no elbows in the back legs.... Shepherds have an unusual gait compared to other dogs. Seek education.

How old is he? Has he had his hips OFA'd? If not then I think you should do this right away.

Just an opinion.. as always.. take what you like and leave the rest..

GOOD LUCK

Sounds like typical crappy American German shepherd breeding to me...they've got terrible structure. That's why many people are switching to other breeds. A GSD with correct temperament and structure (a straight topline, not one that is like 45 degrees *barf*) is rare indeed these days.

it might be caused by breading family because if german sheperds are bread to close like 2 or 3 generations there hips are bad
