i really need a job and i have been having such a hard time finding a family to work for! i thought of posting an ad in the newspaper but it's SO expensive 30$/week! :( I don't know if it's worth it.
I thought of doing it through an agency, but these ppl want me to submit a photo, which they will email to families looking for a babysitter....which i thought was stupid bcoz looks should not interfere with employment. so i am not sure if i wanna do that. am i being too picky concerning this photo issue?
More importantly, do you have any suggestions on how to market myself as a babysitter?

I agree with the first answer. Craigslist is a great site for what ever it is that you are looking for, especially work. Craigslist is free to use, post, and reply. The site is also very popular. On craigslist, you can either look under "community" and "childcare" to find many nanny/sitter ads or you can go to "post to classifieds" and create your own ad. You will get many responses!

Create a resume flyer:
Besure to include in it
date of child cpr class
date of any babysitting or nanny classes
date of any early childhood education classes
Experience (names and numbers upon request)
If you are bondable

I would not have anyone watch children in my house if I did not have all of the above. & a police report and a back ground check.

After that, take it to a school in a good neighborhood ask if you can post it, and to churches in a good neighborhood.
Good Luck

You really need to connect to both the parents and the kids. The kids can be very influential. As for the picture, send it in, what can it hurt?

Go to Craigslist.com

It works really well. Just put a resume up there and see what happens.

Why don't you try making flyers and posting them up in busy places. And also sticking them in people's mailboxes if you want.
