Moses, Now there is a guy I would have liked to meet. Imagine him leading his people in the desert for 40 years and not able to find his way out. You would think that after a week or 10 days someone would have said "Hey Moses are we lost" In all that time in the desert no one opened a deli. If this guy was alive today his name would be George.

There are all kinds of people in the world, even those that are a bit nutty or talented at convincing others and getting them to follow them.
I mean, how many in this day and age think they are the new Jesus? All it would take is too many gullible people to believe them. Luckily people are more easily suspicious now...

I think Moses and Muhammad were men with control issues. I think Jesus was an enlightened soul whose message has been totally bastardized by his religious followers. Its not about god, its about making humanity more civilized.

The same thing i think of John Edwards from crossing over. Come on look at how many people follow that lying fool. Do you think people in a time where there was no modern science where hard to fool?

you're starting from the assumption that atheists actually acknowledge the existence of the people you mentioned. the bible is a very dense work of fiction, open to different interpretations and is therefore prone to abuse. people can distort any given passage to fit their purposes. so i think people shouldn't focus on religion so much and start treating others (people, animals, the environment) better.

Situations vary. Some of the people were fictitious. Some were simply confused. Some were delusional, but Muhammad was a fraud.

they may have genuinely believed themselves, they may have been trying to bring peace to the world through powerful rhetoric, maybe satan or zeus was tricking them into thinking it was god. nobody knows anything. they all had some good advice, as did many other people who never claimed to be prophets. follow what makes sense to you.

Today, if someone made the same claims they did back then, they would be considered crazy. We are far more intelligent than the people of that time period.
