John is referred to as the beloved disciple, son of Zebedee. Scripture vs. describe him as full of
energy, intolerant, vindictive, ambitious, learned the lesson of love in the school of Christ, intrusted with the care of Christ's mother, refers to Christian love 25 or more times in his epistles-wrote book of John,1,2,3 John and revelations.

Was the 1st disciple of Christ, one of 3 apostles who comprised the inner circle of disciples,a group that was with Christ on very special occasions (Peter and James the other two). John is said by Paul to be one of the three "pillars" of the church.

He wrote Revelation while imprisoned (though free to go about) on the island of Patmos where it is said he died a natural death in old age.(There is much more info but didn't want to get tedious).

Can give you references on enery of these descriptions if you want-you can email me.(Note, when I submit this,it omits the word ambitious after the word vindictive!)-maybe it will print out now here.

I presume you mean the Apostle John, author of the Gospel of John, the letters John 1,2,3 and the Book of Revelation?

There is quite a bit actually but not in the Holy Bible....other sources.

He was the youngest of the Apostles and the only one to die of natural causes at an old age. And Mary, mother of Jesus, lived the remainder of her life with him after the crucifixion.

John was the brother of St. James & was the son of Zebedee & Salome. He was the youngest of the 12 Apostles. Salome requested Our Lord that John & James "sit at His Right & His Left in Glory," to which Our Lord Replied that they could only do so if they could drink from the Cup that He Must Drink; & Be Baptized with the Baptism that He Must Be Baptized with. The 2 brothers said that they could, & Jesus Told them that they would do so, but, the Seats at His Right & His Left were Reserved for those whom The Father Reserved them for.

John's brother James was the first of the 12 to be Martyred. Of the 12 Apostles, John alone, did not suffer Martyrdom & lived to a ripe old age. Likewise, of the 12 Apostles, he alone was present at the Crucifixion, & it was to him, that Our Lord Entrusted the Care of His Blessed Mother to, with These Words, "Woman, behold, thy son; Son, behold thy Mother." Since that time, right up to the time of the Blessed Mother's Assumption into Heaven, St. John took care of her.

St. Polycarp, an early Church Father, was a disciple of St. John.

St. John was banished to the island of Patmos, which is where he wrote the Book of Revelation.

JOHNEarly Life. John was probably the younger brother of James (Matt 4:21). The mention of the "hired servants" (Mark 1:20); of the "private means" of those women who supported Jesus, which probably included Simone, John's mother (Luke 8:3); of "his own household" (John 19:27), and of his acquaintance with Caiaphas the high priest (18:15) implies a position of at least considerable influence and means. His mother, who manifested an earnest desire for the welfare of her sons (Matt 20:20), probably instructed him in religious things. His trade of fisherman was adapted to holy meditation, since it frequently required him to pass whole nights in stillness upon the water.

JOHN

As might be expected of one of Jesus' three closest disciples, John became the subject of an active and varied church tradition. Tertullian (about A.D. 160-220) said that John ended up in Rome, where he was "plunged, unhurt, into boiling oil." A much later tradition believed that both James and John were martyred. The dominant tradition, however, was that the apostle John moved to Ephesus in Asia Minor, and that from there he was banished to the Island of Patmos (during Domitian's reign, A.D. 81-96). Tradition also held that he returned later to Ephesus, where he died some time after Trajan became emperor in A.D. 98.

Stories that John reclaimed a juvenile delinquent, raised a dead man, and opposed the GNOSTIC heretic Cerinthus survive from this era in his life. It was also the general opinion of the time that from Ephesus John composed the five writings which bear his name in the New Testament (Gospel of John; 1, 2, and 3 John; and Revelation).

John was also one of jesus ' disciples, walked with and learned from Jesus. After the crucifixion, ALL of the disciples known to have walked with jesus were hunted down and suffered brutal deaths for not renouncing Jesus as lord and Saviour.John, however, was hoisted by chains into a boiling vat of lard.He was tortured for hors and still would not scream nor renounce Christ. They were so afraid of John after he did not die that they held council and decided to exile him to the Isle of Platmos.he was severley scarred and blinded. He became known as John The Revelator........Thus The Book of Revelations !!! I learned this and much much more reading Bible prophecy and watching shows like Hal Lindsay, Jack VanImpe and so on.I learned about John and the other Disciples by reading "Signature of God",by Grant Jeffries. Great question, keep your mind on the things of God and He'll keep his blessing upon you!!!!!

He wrote the book of Revelation on a prison island. His persecutors tried to boil him in oil but it turned out he didn't boil, or so the story goes. Probably some more interesting stuff but that's all that came to mind.

John and James were the sons of Zebedee. They were fishermen; Jesus called them to be "fishers of men," and they left their father and all the fishing equipment and followed Him.
