I got one today saying "although this is not an emergency..our records show that our system exceeds the standard or maximum containinmation level" It goes on to say there were things in it that could be radioactive. I live in jersey near a nuclear plant...this just seems like the erin brockovich story to me

Maximum Contamination Levels (MCLs) are levels for various chemicals or elements in water that the EPA has established for water and its consuption. You can research MCLs on www.epa.gov for more information.

If any other MCL other than a radionuclide, I would say that you could just purchase a countertop carbon filtration system to treat your water. But, I have never dealt with it, so I can not tell you how to deal with it.

I would contact the local water authority and get more information. Even though you live near a nuclear plant, they may not be the source of radioactivity. There are Naturally Occuring Radioactive Materials (NORMs) that can make its way into the environment.
