IF someone has already researched your family, they may be in rootsweb.com's family files. However, in general, your history is made up of numerous ancestors, all of whom originate in different families. Normally, genealogists avoid placing names and information about living persons online, for security reasons. So, you need to do a bit of work before hand. Your family could be there, but you would not recognize it as such, unless you have a name and date to link up with.
Many people use ancestry.com... I don't, since it charges. In 20+ years of research, I have never used a for-pay site. They have a banner on rootsweb.com... but they are two different networks.
www.cyndislist.com is one of the oldest collections of genealogy resources. It is fun to browse and see the types of things out there, but also, take a minute to check out one of the "how to" files.

You can likely do genealogy research for free at your local library. Ask if they have a genealogy section, someone there can help you. Also see if the Mormans have a Family History Center in your area. Ancestry.com is often FREE through your local library or history center.

There is a new product you can buy. It is a genealogy self test... If you want to go that route. If you live in Canada they can be picked up at the Bay, other then that, I don't know the web address to order online. But you can try googling genealogy self test.
