No, but they do ask you to bring your warmest winter jacket. Then one day they will have you wear it and ask all the men which one has the warmest coat. You'll confess its your coat because its from Walmart, feels thick and is bright yellow. Then they'll put you in a freezer to climate condition you for extreme conditions. The coat fails cuz its so cheap making you shiver so bad and you can't salute the sgt. anymore.

well before i went to basic a few years ago i bought a new pair of running shoes and i was told i can bring them. When i got there they issued some running shoes and all the stuff i had in boot camp was put in a box and i didn't see it until i graduated. That was the marine corps though, i couldn't tell you about the other services.

YES! Don't listen if someone tells you no. They give you time to buy them but if you have a good pair, bring them! The PX selection is very limited.
(They do not issue running shoes. You have to buy them if you don't bring them.)

bring your own, and preferablly ones that are somewhat broke in. do not spend a ton,just get a GOOD PAIR, cause you wIll wear that pair out in basic....this is army basic I am refering to.

depends on the branch i know air force issues everyone white new balances now, but you might need them till you get all that stuff!

you can take whatever you want to basic training...but you will have to send them home when you get there...they issue you everything..even if you have something that matches!
