I have a ten page paper to write about the foster care process and I cant find a dollar amount anywhere. Naturally I understand that they wouldn't want to make the amount public knowledge so as no to attract the money sharks/ terrible foster parents but I cant find even a estimation anywhere. Does anyone happen to know how much on average for a child? How about a special needs child ? Any info you may have would be helpful. P.S. Foster Care agencies do not give out that type of information over the phone?

I'm a Social Work major and it depends on the state you live in, if you call your local Department of Children and Family Services, they should be able to provide an estimate.

i know for special children they usually get around a 1000.00 a ,month or have them getting ssi check which usually are around 600.00 depending on the social security office if you call them they should be able to give you some idea .for other foster children they get Medicaid cards for medical expense and the state gives around 300.00 to 400.00 per child for clothes and other things that they may need

In Michigan, an even $1,000 and LOADS of legal problems follow. The child is in charge, if he/she can talk or not. And the legal parents cause you LOTS of grief!! If you get into it, have fun. You will probably end up in court, many times a year. It's not an easy way to make money. Check into it lots . . . talk with lots of people who have done this. If you ever get into it, get thousands of people to pray for you - maybe that will help.
p.s.: I'LL never do it again.
