The norm for our society is for a man to propose to the woman. But who says that a woman can not propose? I am interested to hear your opinions.

why not? women these days are pushing at equality with men, this is a perfect example of how to take on a traditionally male role...if the man loves the woman, he'll accept (just as it is with the opposite situation)... and as far as "killing his masculinity," if he's upset by the woman proposing, maybe he isn't as masculine as he would be otherwise? a real man wouldn't obsess about a detail as petty as who proposed to whom, he'd just embrace the relationship...

Sure - a woman can propose, but I think the most important thing is that the people involved have discussed the idea of marriage and have come to the conclusion that they feel prepared to make a go of it. It was traditional that men do the proposing and buy the engagement ring, etc. but times have changed. That was considered to be very romantic, but not necessarily practical. Marriage is a huge proposition, and I think that it's better when both people come to the decision, rather than one or the other person actually proposing.

Well I think a woman can propose, but I think it's more romantic when a man proposes. Probably because we are so used to seeing woman proposing. I'm pretty sure men would like that because it takes the pressure off. Well that's my opinion.

I believe a woman has the right to propose. However, I still believe that the man has the right to ask first. If he takes too long to ask, the woman has the right to know whether he is serious about the relationship or not.

NO. and dis has nothing to do wt womens lib. Its just that men n women r made in a certain way..n u cant change dat.

A rel. where d women proposes will probably not last long. I mean if a man wants to spend d rest of his life wt u...d least he can do is propose!!

Its d same wt dating too. u have to let d man do d asking.

If hes so lazy dat he cant b bothered doin nething bout it...then wat kind of a man is he? how will he be a good husband n a good father if hes not willing to take any initiative? Think abt it.

women basically propose the minute they begin mentioning to the guy their interest in family and kids and age and all that. it then becomes the man's responsibility to say "yes" by proposing to the woman

It is tradition for the man to propose, but it is also ok for the woman to propose, it just isn't as common.

personally, i think its fine. but since the tradition is so strong that the man should do the proposing, some men may be put off by the proposal and refuse. it happened to someone i know.

Definitely. It happens sometimes. Sometimes there is no proposal at all but partners just talk about it and agree on it without doing the whole getting down on the knee thing.
