Well, I'm 4'11" and 98 lbs...if I can take it...so can you... :) I'm a big wimp when it comes to needles and pain. I got one and I'm getting an addition in a month. Just keep in mind that you're going to get a new piece of art on you soon! It will be great...just eat a good meal before hand...

You will not pass out if you eat before hand...keep your body sugar level at a decent level. Concentrate on an object and remember to breath.

Since you're only 16...I'm assuming you did your homework regarding places and your parents are giving written consent? (like they're going with you and signing papers) because it's illegal for them to tattoo you otherwise. Also - I think you're a girl due to your measurements but pls make sure that you are positive about your decision to get tattooed as a minor and the placement of your tattoo because the tattoo does not grow along with you should your body grow in the future...length or width wise.

Rider: Felt like being nice tonight. =)

I would have them do a small portion of the outline first, so you can figure out whether or not you can handle the pain. Depending on the size of the tattoo, you might want to take a break in between the setting if you are not able to handle the pain. However myself, I find it easier to set through it all at once.

I am a little curious who is going to tattoo a minor? Not sure about the "rules" where you are, but here, if you are under 18 you can not be tattooed unless you have a parents signature. If it is not a professional tattoo artist, I would be very careful.

Good Luck

Hey Looker...(Usually I would go off on a rant about children getting tattooed).....But kristina was so nice and polite so I'm going to be good and just throw my two cents worth in. I have only had the outsides of my biceps tattooed but the closest thing I can compare it to .....it's like having tiny little sparks falling down on you over and over. They go out as soon as they hit the skin...but there's always more of them falling and hitting.. It doesn't hurt so much as it is annoying. The next day (and for about 4 to 6 days later) its going to feel like a sunburn. The key is to relax, listen to music or talk to a friend to distract you. Use the best artist you can find. go to my 360 page and click on the dragon tattoo in my blog, then click it again. My dragon was 12 hours old in that picture...no scabs..no bleeding.

I am doing 8 to 9 hours under the needles next month so I've been doing my research.....here is the best article I could find on pain as charted by body location

I hope this helps

where are you getting a tattoo at 16? do you have parental permission? i would be hesitant to get a tattoo somewhere that will tattoo someone underage. the pain will be bearable. how big are you getting it? the bigger it is the more it will hurt but i have had lots of hours of tattoo done and i am basically the same size you are. good luck!

jpearl28 is right. They are illegal under the age of 18. If the tattoo shop doesn't have a problem with that, you should. Trust me, I have several tattoos and you want to go to someone who is ethical and complies with all the licenses. Plus you never pay in advance. Just a suggestion, but I'd try to get my money back. This guy sounds like a "scratcher."

I have 10 and the worst pain I had was like a bee sting. I hope you got your parent OK for the tattoo, as in most states you have to be 18. and you are going to a good reputable artist aren't you?

Hey, don't worry about the pain, worry about the design!! You don't want to sit through all the pain and then in few days/weeks/months then realised the tattoo design meant nothing to you. My experience? Well the outlining felt like a sewing machine on my arm, but I can stand it, take it as a ritual to manhood or womanhood, good luck!!

You didn't ask if should you do it, you asked how to take the pain. I wish all these folks who are telling you not to to do it find a different question to answer... oh wait, you're sixteen? Isn't that illegal? Get your money back. You're too young to understand "regret" I waited until I was 30, when I started riding sport bikes. Just saying, it's not that big of deal for you to wait, especially if you're that nervous.

I'm not going to get the best answer for this am I?

Oh my god, your only 16 years old! Man, you better hope its something your gonna love for a lifetime and is worth it. The worst thing I believe is getting a tattoo early in life, cause people change there likes. Your parents are letting you? Or are you paying some dude who does it on the side? And your gonna do it on your right side, right side of what part of your body, your torso? That will hurt. I hope its no ones name..lol
