I think God wants us to sell out to Him and Him alone. That way he can make good use of us in this dark and lost world, who needs light.

I think that many Christians-- well meaning, use those verses to disdain every thing that they see others do that they deem 'unclean'. BUT . . . . If you read the end of Romans 11 you will see that Paul was talking about becoming prideful that Jews did not recognize the Messiah as Christians are able to. It has nothing to do with eating things with trans-fatty acids in them, smoking, etc.

Hi. Good Q. Here's what Pastor Chuck wrote as a commentary in The Word For Today (tm) Bible: "Paul, on the basis of the mercies of God and all that He has done for us, begged his readers to present their bodies to the Lord..., instead of being conformed to this world...We will need to deny our flesh [worldly thinking process] of some of the things it wants to do...We will have to give up some of our time-wasting activities in order to spend time in the Word and in fellowship and prayer."

Its very obvious. It says we should serve God in our daily life, not being conformed to the ways of the world but to be transformed by the mind of Christ and don't become big-headed about it and be humble instead.

I think its a very spiritual verse.

If people do not subject themselves to the spirit of God, they will not understand what is God's will for them.

How then can be grow as christians?

For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think [of himself] more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith.

That we need to die to ourselves. To offer ourselves as a sacrifice to God for His will and purposes.
