Each is insisting the other two respect his imaginary friend .. one's is green, the next kid has a little blue imaginary friend, and the other has a little orange imaginary friend ...

So you spank the crap out of all three brats, right?

I forgot, in the R&S category I need a metaphor disclaimer (the kids aren't literal, nor is the sandbox).

You pull them out of the sand box and make them clean up the yard.

No, the best thing in this case is to separate the three kids and give them a "time out" from each other. Little kids like this (I'm inferring their age as very young from the imaginary friend idea) have little logic skills, and don't calm themselves down well. They need guidance and discipline. That is where the "time out" comes in handy. It gives them time to catch their breath and think, especially with their parent/guardian talking some sense into them.

Don't be so quick to spank. Not all incidents call for it!

Only spank the kids with the orange and blue imaginary friends, cuz my favorite color is green. If they cry, let them know you will get the belt out and make it really hurt. Then feed them cookies and milk, and make them watch brady bunch reruns.

The problem is that the parents are controlling the fight and none of them believe in these imaginary friends at all but are happy to use them as justification.

Yea, but what are you gonna do to the three imaginary kids? are you partial because the other three were colored?

Resorting to violence over beliefs? That sounds awfully religious to me! (were you raised xtian or something?...sorry)

You will have to wait until they grow past this stage....you can't force them not to believe....or you can tell them to play nice or they won't be allowed to play with others anymore. That's it. But above all.....SPARE THE ROD.
