Does anyone know the name of a set of really good dvd's for yoga?? I want to learn yoga but there is no classes or anything where I live so I have no choice but to do it at home, and I want to purchase some really good dvd's, that start from beginners, to intermediate, to advanced. So if someone can give me some information or anything it would be really appreciated. Thanks a bundle.

The Ashtanga Yoga Series with David Swenson, personally I think is very very good. I started off with Ashtanga Yoga - Short Forms with David Swenson then Ashtanga Yoga - First Series with David Swenson and the Ashtanga Yoga - Second & Third Series with David Swenson is quite difficult and I've been at that one for a few months now. I did have a little Hatha Yoga experience but I think his videos are easy to follow and he is a very skilled and expert yoga leader. The Short Forms is a great one to start with.

I also kind of liked Bryan Kest's Power Yoga series. And if you're looking for a little bit different type of yoga I thought LivingArts Kundalini Yoga with Gurmukh was nice. It gets you really warm and heated up. It's a bit more cardio-ish.

But I think yoga is more of a lifestyle change and not just asanas, you'll learn that through your yoga travels and eventually you will find the yoga that fits you best.

Good luck.

Target sells a DVD called "Beginner's Yoga" - I own it but have been doing my routine for SO long I can't find it to tell you who it's by. But I am sure that is what it is called. Also - check out the local bookstores. They OFTEN sell inexpensive VERY well written books that are like HUGE flash cards that are VERY well written.

Read up on the net about the different yoga styles too. Some are very intriquet and bornign and some are athletic. My personal fav is called ASHTANGA YOGA - Athletic. I like it. It is great.

Also, if you have On Demand on your cable channels - specifically Comcast - they have TONS of EXCELLENT yoga and yoga/pilates routines ABSOLUTELY FREE on those channels under "Fit TV" and "Health and Fitness".....

You can also buy yourself a yoga mat at the local barnes and noble OR borers. They sell Excellent startup kits that have everything you need for 30-40$.

Anyway. Check it out. You will enjoy.

Word of advice.
If you get real sore from discovering muscles you never knew you had - take an epsom salt bath. It will draw the acids out of your muscles, ease tension and help detoxify your body.

Discovery Health Channel website may also offer free Downloads of workouts and even Yoga.

It really depends on what you are looking for. I have purchased a few yoga DVD's. Some of them are quite boring to me, others really got me hooked.

I would suggest going to a video store and renting a few titles and see what you like. Then, once you find a DVD you like, find more in the series or by the same person and purchase a few to use on a regular basis.
