What do you guys feel about being religous/having faith be it Christianity, Judaism, Islam etc and being happy or having peace of mind.

Personally, I used to be somewhat religious and I felt very content at times of difficulty. For example once I was very afraid of driving through a nasty snow strom. I calmed myself through thinking that GOD has set a time for my death, if it's today then it doesnt matter even if it's sunny outside, because I'm going to die. But if it's not then be it a snow storm or avalanche, nothing can hurt me today.

Over the years, I have started to lose my faith and interest in religion. And I really miss that assurance and comfort I used to receive on areas where I had no control.

We all go there and that might be good when you get down enough to say I don't want this anymore, I want what I had.

"Too many 'religious' people become religious precisely to avoid having to think," writes the dean of a theological seminary in the United States. "They simply want to accept everything 'on faith,'" he adds.

This implies that most who claim religious faith give little thought to why they believe what they do, or, to whether there is reasonable basis for their faith. It is no wonder, then, that religion has become a topic many don't want to talk about...

I am in the same boat. I was hurt by some church members as I was nieve about alot of things and about people. I know God was right there with me and still is, but I feel different. The "fire" is gone and it is hard to figure out if this is what maturing in Christ feels like , or if I can ever get back the excitment I once felt. I am not even remotely ready to do the church scene again, but want to go deeper with God. I am happy and do have a peace. So I guess that is all I can expect from this life.

Wow ... I was just talking to a friend about this today and this is what I miss the most also, the feeling of having some sort of control when helpless.

This is the biggest reason why I will not bash anybodys faith ... I don't wish for anybody to loose this. Peace :-)

One can have faith without being religious. I do have faith in a benevolent God (of sorts), and faith that I am where I am for a reason. A bunch of arbitrary rules and nonsense never added to my peace of mind one whit -- quite the opposite, actually.

Peace of mind is everything some days. Try to find a new way to achieve it, if faith is no longer right for you.

No. i'm no longer green with envy of Christians. from time to time i absolutely despise the ideology, regardless of if no longer unavoidably the individuals. i imagine of them as naive typically, yet those that i comprehend in my opinion are fantastically reliable human beings. i'm content textile in now understanding that i'm equivalent to all beings. That measuring up is an phantasm; the smoke and mirrors of prestige quo. i have continually been diverse. i am going to continually be diverse, because i'm extra interested in reality than prestige quo. i do not envy theists. not at all. i found the expertise that I begged God for. I absolutely have it. i'd tournament wits with Solomon. they ought to envy me.

My faith is in God not religion, I have found out that God is in control of my life, not me so thats were my peace is.

You should glory in your new-found ability to reason your way through problems without relying on superstitious nonsense. It is a source of confidence to me to know that my fate is in my capable hands, not those of a deity that might choose to trash me on a whim.

Is it complacency? I think tht the common tact is to suspect that you are being prideful! Watch out! You know what comes next.

Perhaps a new focus? Did Jesus say, " Be Religious and be saved." Is that what he said?
